Wolf Creek gets an average of 465 inches of snow each year, and already this season, it has received 202 inches -- more than any other place in the country! The lines are short, the powder is awesome, and the nearby town of Pagosa Springs is fun and friendly. The hot springs are terrific after a day on the slopes.

I'm 25 years old, and I've skied Wolf Creek one week a year for 21 years. I think that says enough about my feelings toward WC. I love it. I can only remember one time when there wasn't much snow. Only a 68 inch base which is more than a lot of places have on a good year. Some wouldn't like it because there is no village or accommodations on the mountain, but I think I speak for most of the loyal Wolf Creekers when I say that's one big reason why we like it so much. Keeps the crowds down and the Yuppies away. This place is about affordable, family oriented, laid back skiing/boarding on lots and lots of powder. Since I only get the opportunity to ski once a year, I go there to do one thing, ski my butt off and get in as many runs as possible. Quite frankly I'm afraid to go anywhere else because I don't know what it feels like to wait for a lift. We are usually able to ski right up to a lift and get on without even stopping.

Stay in Pagosa Springs. More places to stay. More places to eat. Be sure you go out to the resort part of town on the Durango side. There is more lodging, restaurants, shopping, and ammenities out there than in town. You can't leave without getting a burger and shake from the Malt Shoppe. Get your skis/boards and any other gear you need at the Ski and Bow Rack, those guys are the best. After a hard day on the slopes, go rest in one of the many hot springs pools downtown. Watch out for Texans on the way up the pass, they are a little slow. Always wear SUNSCREEN and SUNGLASSES. Have FUN. Go SOONERS.

Its only a matter of time before Red McCombs will beat these tree huggers and get the Village at Wolf Creek approved. He will financially exhaust those crying Colorado hippies and I can finally be sleeping slopeside in powder paradise. Remember Colorado, "God blessed Texas". Now shut up and start building.

Kevin sounds a little bitter... maybe a Texan ran off with his wife.

Wolf Creek is without a doubt the best resort I've been to. The best part is, you can't even really call it a resort. It's just an affordable good time! Tree skiing, powder weeks after a major storm, good music playing at the lifts (instead of relentless 90's pop), helpful staff, little to no people. I mean, it's just wonderful. They even have discount days like local and college days, which is just amazing, considering most resorts would never dream of giving a discount.

Well, Kevin, I'm a Texan and I know its "their" blue jeans, not "there." Idiot.

Great powder; the best in Colorado. If you want 3 more feet of snow then anywhere else then Wolf Creek is worth the drive.

What a great time. We went in mid january '07 and the place was empty despite the 4.5 feet of snow we got! What a dream. The summit had very fast wind gusts but we were prepared and the whole alberta area had low winds....And no one goes over to that area. There must have only been 20 people in the whole area in the middle of the day. We had fresh powder runs every time...with only a little effort to go off the beaten path. If you hurt yourself, your SOL. If someone does find you hurt, you'll have to be airlifted to durango....so watch out for those trees and dropoffs. Ski with a couple friends if your in the area serviced by the Alberta lift.

The road has recently been widened and upgraded to modern mountain pass standards. If you read old reviews people complain about how bad it is. We did it in a front wheel drive car with no chains, although we were the only FWD car in the parking lot, it's doable.... just a little scary when its a near white-out. The plows keep the layer of snow on wolf creek pass to a minimum although they dont seem to run when WC opens or closes bc there are too many cars driving rediculously slow when lots of snow is coming down. One time it took us 2 hours to get to Pagosa Springs. Ususally just takes 30 minutes.

If you're sticking to the groomed runs, WC will seem small. And if you're staying off advanced, expert, and tree runs but still want adventure....you will not find it. WC does little grooming....keeping it the way a lot of people like it.

All in all the best experience for me ever. I'll be going back march '07 and hopefully avoiding all the long lines at big name resorts.

My first experience at Wolf Creek was last winter after five feet of snow fell in three days. The powder was shoulder high and light. The far left lift was never crowded and has runs that consist of trees, cliffs, and are to difficult for all those texans. So the powder was there from 4 in the afternoon. Love wolf Creek, most snow in colorado!
