Mountain Statistics For Wintergreen Ski Resort

Wintergreen is the place to learn to ski with options for every “wanna be” skier or snowboarder.
Get On Board Virginia! is a new program this year. Guests sign up for the program on the website and receive a coupon for lift ticket (limited area), rentals and group lesson for $49. A bounce back offer for a repeat visit is included.

Snow License is returning again this year for all currently enrolled 5th and 6th graders in Virginia, North Carolina, D.C., Maryland and West Virginia, including those who are home schooled. Three free passes are part of the program that is designed to encourage skiing and snowboarding opportunities for an emerging young audience. Children who enroll in the Snow License program will receive a complimentary lift ticket based on the purchase of an adult lift ticket, which is discounted by $15 for an 8-hour session or by $10 for a 4-hour lift ticket. Each Snow License holder will receive three complimentary lift tickets per Snow License. The program begins January 3, 2012 and runs Sunday through Friday throughout the season. Not valid on Saturdays, January 15, 2012 or February 19, 2012

Bragging Rights
Within a short drive, Wintergreen Resort offers a Blue Ridge Mountain-top skiing and riding experience enhanced with high-speed lifts and state of the art snowmaking. The resort features comprehensive expert terrain with the Highlands, an expert-only area serviced by its own high-speed lift. Wintergreen is also a favorite for families, with 23% of their slopes dedicated to beginners, as well as the region's top snow-tubing park. 100% of Wintergreen's terrain is covered by an automated snow- making system with more than 400 snow guns and 45 weather stations in place on the resort's 26 slopes and trails.

Specials
For 2011-12 the resort's attractive Winter Escape package starts at $69 per person per night in studio accommodations. The package includes lodging and a full (8-hour session) lift ticket for the following day, unlimited use of the Aquatics & Fitness Center and mountain shuttle access. The Winter Escape package is available daily through the entire season with rates varying depending on the date of stay.


Wintergreen is again offering Women's Ski and Ride Clinics, a program designed for women and taught by women. Under the direction of Wintergreen's PSIA certified instructors, the Friday Women's Clinics will focus on a positive, supportive approach to improving skiing and riding skills. The special series is scheduled for four consecutive Fridays (Jan. 20, 27, Feb. 10, 17), from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes instruction and lunch. To top off the women's series, a Grand Finale Women's Weekend is set for Feb. 4-5, 2012, showcasing HEAD professional Alison Gannett, a champion extreme big-mountain free-skier. The weekend will include skiing and riding instruction, workshops, dining and social networking.

Other Fun Features

Terrain Parks
Wintergreen’s two Terrain Park offers skiers and snowboarders the chance to practice freestyle skills on snow features, jibs and rails. The two parks are home to events and competitions including Freestyle Rail Jams, the Blue Ridge Doublecross and the Wintergreen Slopestyle.

Snowtubing
Wintergreen has Virginia’s largest snow tubing area, offering winter fun for the entire family, regardless of skiing or snowboarding ability.

The Plunge
A 900-foot, 10-lane, mega-snow tubing hill for people 42 inches and taller. Tubers can reach thrilling speeds of 25 to 40 miles per hour with a vertical drop of 100 feet.

Ridgely’s Fun Park
Designed for ages two and up. Adults are permitted to play alongside children. The Park is an interactive play area for kids that include children’s music, snow forts, winter carousel and tubing.

Outdoor Ice Skating Rink
Shamokin Ice, an intimate, family-style outdoor skating rink is located atop the mountain near the Mountain Inn. The rink is open Fridays 5-10 p.m.; Saturdays and holiday Sundays 1:30-10 p.m.; Sundays and holiday Mondays 1:30-8 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursday 5-8 p.m. (Closed only on non-holiday Mondays and Wednesdays.)
