I went to Granite Peak in mid march again and they had a ton more snow than last time. As I got there in the morning that was the best time to go on the hill. The groomers are new here and do an amazing job but as the day goes on the runs become icy from the warm weather (34 to 40). No mistake though, granite peak has the biggest and best terrain parks in the midwest. They had a big air competition when I went there and the jumps were colorado size. Again, the food is way overpriced. The tree skiing was crazy good on the right side of the hill(but the lift to get back up on the far right side takes forever). The new high speed lift is a great addition too. I LUV ALEX MENOS! JK he's horrible

Drove north, again, 6 hours to the best area I've
been to in the midwest. The last week of February
was great. That extra day we all get every 4 years
greeted me with 4" of new stuff!!Putting First
Tracks down on the west side was a blast!Skiing
here thru the week cannot be beat. One has minimal
if any lift lines. The lift attendants were cordial
and very helpful.I've been "brown bagging"lunch
for years so I don't know about price or quality
of food. The staff at Sundance Chalet were great
and always had a smile for me.All the lift attendents that had assisted me thru the week had
changed on friday. This bummed me out because I
didn't get a chance to thank them all, especially
Rich, for making my last trip of my silver anniversary skiing so flippin' great! That last day
was crowded but it greatly eased by the time they
flipped the switch on for the lights.I really enjoyed the bottom arcing back-n-forth to scrub
off the speed from the top.I was able to work on
my finnese at this time. The internet price of $41
for 11 hours skiing is well worth my IL wages and
time.I'm going to start planning next years trip
soon and Rib Mountain State Park is definatly going to be high on my list...Thanx Again all you
support staff UP NORTH!!!

We went up this past weekend Fri 2/22-Sat 2/23. Our children had only skied once before at Alpine Valley. They did a 2 hour teddy bear lesson Friday morning. By the time we picked them up our older child was off with an instructor 1 on 1 on a chair lift. Later that day our younger child was doing green chair lifts. Our older child was on blue with an instructor the next morning. The instructors, rental people and chair lift attendentants were fantastic and accomodating to the fact that we had younger children who needed more assistance loading and or unloading, etc... It was more crowded Saturday but lift lines were still more than manageable and the varried runs meant that they were not crowded at all. The snow was great - hardly icy!
The food was another story. The lines were horrible even Friday, tables all taken by people who seemed to be saving them for the day, the prices high and quality poor.
Overall very positive experience - Saturday we avoided the food fiasco by driving to BK and eating in the car - cost less than half the price, was quicker and tastier!

Granite is amazing. It's size blows away anything around. You'd have to drive 9+ hours to get to anything that can match it. It's a little on the pricey side, but it is well worth it.* the bottom gets very flat, so it can be a pain.

this mountain blows away any other mountain in the wisc, mich lower penninsula area.also way better than any u p resort except bohemia which is not for families. as a skier who logs 2 trips west each year i can tell you that devils head an resorts like it are fine as long as you are a beginner. by the time my son was 8 he could ski any run at devils head(they are all the same)with his eyes closed.granite peak does have a flat runout at the bottom 1/3 but on top you can find runs that are challenging and varied. it is to expensive but they have invested a lot in this place and it shows.service needs to improve but they worked on the hill first as they should.

Granite Peak has such potential, but with owners more obsessed with making big bucks than delivering quality service, this area is the worst choice for skiing/riding in the upper midwest. For Milwaukeeans, Devilshead and Cascade are much better choices and they are even an hour closer to Milwaukee.
Granite Peak advertises around 70 or so runs, realistically its about 25. The advertised vertical is 700+ ft. This is probably accurate, but be warned the first 400 ft is great and the last 300 ft is a long run out to the lift. There is nothing the owners can do about the hill configuration, but there is something they can do about the insane lift ticket prices.
My biggest beef with Granite Peak is service. It doesn't exist. How many other resorts make you sign a release of liability when you buy a lift ticket? How many resorts offer to hold a ski race and then shun everyone associated with the event? How many resorts charge full lift ticket prices when only 10-20 percent of their terrain is open?
My advise, ski Cascade or Devilshead or take the extra couple of hours and hit the ski areas in Big Snow Country in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

I came to Granite Peak in mid March when the snow was melting and my hometown had NO SNOW! So I was feeling pretty down and felt that Granite Peak wouldn't even be nice but WOW!! The snow was well groomed for how much they had(which was more than I expected it would be). Watch out for the prices though. I suggest you bring your own food on the mountain because it was 3.50 for a water, 4.50 for cheese curds, and about 5 bucks for a little hamburger! The lift tickets are over priced too but the terrain was amazing because when you looked out at Wausau from the top there WAS NO SNOW and the runs had a 37 inch base at the least! The hill was mine because no one was on the hill and I loved it. No long lines! The terrain park had jumps, boxes, c-rails, and everything else in between. We took pictures on the mountain which was nice. All in all, I plan on coming back soon(or at least want to).

Ah, too bad that the air went out of the bladder here, but, keep gouging people and they just quit coming. The Chi-town crowd has left, the locals are pissed and, yet, life goes on. Snow is great, grooming great(except the backwards moguls on Sundance) and the crowds are non-existant. Come back when they cut the prices and hopefully, the people will return. For a $50 ticket, the least they could do is sweep the snow off the chairs and say have a nice day. Nope, charge $14+ for a pitcher and $4.50 for a burger and watch the traffic go north. Too bad, it could be so nice.

Wonderful Mountain to ski or snowboard at. I usually go to cascade but last year i decided to try a run here and wow was it great. Lots of trails low crowds.. And people complaine about the prices. Which they are just cheap. To tell you the truth you go up to anyother mountain, for example Cascade. You have to pay around 40 bucks and the mountain is no where near as tall as this one. And this has so much more trails... SO peopel if you say its over priced your nuts. Look how much snow, they have to make on days when ther eis no snow.. Look how much electric goes through.. So yes i believe this mountain is a wonderful place to bring anyone who loves to have fun!!! Thank You for a great trip

It was warm and the snow was melting fast. The skiing was marginal at best. I do not know why this year they did not make much snow. I do not think it will last much longer. The skiing was ungroomed also-must be saving diesel. Over $50 to ski the day is too much for this hill. $4 for a 11 ounces of beer in a plastic cup! The locals appear to bring their own! We never stayed long at the hill-we always went to the hotel where believe or not the food prices were less! For your best value keep going north to the UP!

I went to Granite Peak last week and had a lot of fun there. The skiable area is big, terrains are great for all levels of skiers and what's more, I enjoyed so much doing tree skiing!
Being a skier for several years, I have been to several ski resorts in Wisconsin and Illinois. Definitely this is the best! It's the place I want to come back again and again. Atually, my ski skills improved while I was skiing there.
Great place!

Have been driving North 6 hours and staying at the (Park Inn till '05) Wasau Inn for several years. In 4 nights I can ski at least 24 hours. The 2to1 ratio ski/drive is well worth my time and IL wages. I've never had to deal with lift lines 'cause I play during the week. Thursday PM has traffic from school and ski clubs but they're usually gone by 8. Some complain about green stuff at bottom of runs,I find it a sweet way to bleed off Speed in a graceful and easy manner. I found the staff very helpful and pleasant. I'm in my late Fortys and as long as I live here and the Peak is there I'll be taking some of our IL greens and depositing them into the WI economy. I've skied alot of the midwest and for the money($36 internet=12hrs) this can't be beat for where I am at on this big blue marble!I don't eat on the slope,I've always brown bagged lunch. My lodging is less than 10minutes away so periodic breaks are no big hassle. I really enjoy reaching out to the locals and thank them for their taxes that paid for my pleasant trip into their back yard. Granted the lifts on the west and east are
older but gosh they could tweak it up abit. This is
where no rookie should be anyway...we could
handle a wee bit more speed. I'll be returning in
Feb. I love that flippin' fall line!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got back from the Granite Peak, and it really impressed me. To find such a nice hill for snowboarding in Mid-west was quite a surprise. The steep top for speed and a green lower portion of the hill for a nice curves is prefect. The High-speed chairlift is really great. All the chairlift actually were very comfortable, some of them were too slow. Staff is mostly older teenagers, really cool and not annoying like. There is some interesting terrain in the resorts, couple of fun drops to do. The snowboard park is not that impressive, there are two of them, one for beginners with easy jump and some rails, and another one is right by the six-pack with two huge big-airs, nice landing, but not too much air.
It was definitely a great experience, and i would go back there.
