Went skiing at this resort for the first time in December 2006. I am a solid intermediate skier and have skied other resorts in New England, but mainly in CO. The conditions at Okemo were HORRIBLE. Picture a frozen blue river of ice with a <1/4 inch of snow on top. It was dangerous!!! People were skiing out of control, it was VERY crowded, with lots of bare spots. The mountain's website claimed "packed powder" and about 50+ trails open. I counted about 4 trails open and all I saw was solid ice. Despite this, I still paid full price for lift tickets! What a rip off!!! The night life and restaurants stunk, too. Paid way too much for nothing in return. This was the first vacation I ever took where I actually left early. I WILL NEVER SKI THERE AGAIN. Save your money. This place is over rated!

Awsome cruzing trails. Long, wide, and smooth. Avoid Upper Mountain Rd unless you like to pole the whole way. But do find Jolley Green Giant and Lime Light for some great cruz'n with some terrain changes. We skiied one of the coldest days of the year so crowds were very low...which was good for us. We never waited in a line.

I visited Okemo for the first time after reading and hearing about their terrains. I have to say, given we had no winter season here in the east, the trails weren't as bad as other places in the east. The service was nice. We stayed at the Jackson Gore Inn, in a studio. The sleeper sofa I chose for two teens - it was so bad, I wouldn't put my dog on it! The elevators to the main lobby wasn't accessible to everything such as the pool and parking area, which was a major inconvenience - so the layout is awful. There were way too many kids (lots of noise, of course) so if you don't want to hear the yells and cries of little one's (however cute), choose a different lodging. Early morning grooming machines make noise too for those who don't like to ski at 8am. For us it wasn't a problem but for those hitting the slopes later it might be. FOR THE SKIING ITSELF OKEMO, IS GREAT. I'd go back but stay somewhere less busy.

The mountain is at is best. Great snow every where, fresh, artificial or nice groomed. Great place for intermedia - advance. Lift at the green trail ares are kind of slow.
Sevice is very bad. People aren't polite at all. The way they ask you to lower your bar is by yelling " Sr. do you want to die!!... then lower your bar".
The same happens at the lodges, and at the parking.
Also didn't like their facilites. Too many stair and very badly designed the unloading and parking area.
Still, one of the best slopes on the east.

This weekend was my first visit to Okemo. I have skied many times at Mt. Snow and Killington, but never had a chance to visit Okemo until now. I was at Okemo for 2 days and had a chance to cover a lot of the terrain and try a variety of services. Even though mother nature has gotten the season off to a slow start, Okemo did a great job of making snow. On Friday 15 trails were open. By Saturday the number of open trials doubled to 30 with the capacity expanded by the opening of Jackson Gore.
There was top to bottom skiing at both bases. I spent Friday skiing from the Okemo base. I was able to avoid the crowds by skiing from the Jackson Gore base on Saturday. Trails on both mountains fits my skiing style nicely with some nice slopes and hills.
In addition, I had a chance for a very helpful ski lesson, tried some new high end Salomon demo skis and sampled some really tasty food. The new restaurant called Epic at the Solitude lodge was especially interesting and tasty
Okemo is now on my list of places to visit and recommend.

Okemo is great if:::
1) You are an intermediate skier
2) You are into real estate, condo-culture, and Disney
3) You have kids and you want to know where those kids are when they are finished with their runs
The things I like about Okemo:;;
1) I love the view of the mountain as I drive up from the South through Chester
2) Ludlow is a wonderful, funky Vermont Town. What a shame that the powers that be decided to invest their time, energy and money into creating a Disneyesque Vermont Tremblant, instead of transforming Ludlow into a beautiful mix of the old and new.
3) The Intermediate Trails on the far skier's right afford gorgeous views of the valley and beyond.
4) When the snow is rich and deep, the tree trail down the center of the mountain is both exciting and challenging-- unfortunately, it is not often open.
5) If you are learning to ski or snowboard--there is a lovely little lift that veers off to the right from the base of the mountain which is the ideal place to learn to ski or board
The disappointments:
1) The much touted Jackson Gore is a Jackson Bore
2) The grooming staff takes great pride in their work---they just go way overboard---transforming trails into fairways.
3) No covered lifts, no gondola, no windscreens
4) When I ski down a mountain I want to see trees and winterscapes covered with snow and ice, not the decks of condos and the facades of Mac-mansions.

Me and my family have skied at Okemo since I was 4. I loved it when I was blue-square level but now that I love black diamonds the begginer-rated ski terrain has bored me. The only trails that are really fun are the glades, and they only take natural snow. They are hardly ever open. It is way too expensive and not worth the money.

My rating for "Terrain" only reflects the challenge at Okemo; it's not a hugely challenging mountain, although it has it's spots, and it's certaily fun. However, where Okemo shines is in it's snowmaking/grooming and it's conduciveness to families. It's great on both counts. Weekend skiing anywhere near the major cities is guaranteed to be crowded, so anyone who knocks a mountain for that is a fool. Okemo's an excellent family mountain (not QUITE Smuggs, though), and for early/late season conditions, it's as sure a bet as you'll get this side of Jay Peak.

I've skied Okemo for more than 10 years and I've always found it a pleasant experience. I disagree with those who say it is crowded. Any Eastern resort could take a lesson from Okemo on keeping skier traffic moving. I've skied Holidays and was delighted with the fact that I could always find quick lift line and a trail with room to move. Of course you need to know how to pick your spots. I am very fond of Okemo.

Much too expensive for what you get. I usually ski with 5 grandchildren and we can only ski Okemo maybe once or twice a season. Cannon is a better value for family skiing.
