I skied on a Monday, so I can't comment on weekend crowds. There were no crowds midweek.

MRG is an excellent place. The all-natural, no snowboarding ethos makes for great bumps that stay softer so much longer than at other places. Snowboarders will of course disagree - why they scrape their way down bumps, I'll never know - but anyone that skis Sugarbush bumps one day and then skis them at the River the next will understand exactly what I'm talking about. It's not easy, but it's not as hard as all the locals will say - they're just trying to keep you away! Bring your A game, and be sure to check out Lower Antelope. The Hyde Away Inn is a great place to stay and drink, btw.

I've visited about 10 ski resorts in New England and Mad River Glen is the prettiest I've seen. Even though the terrain was too challenging for me, I have to say that I really enjoyed being surrounded by snow covered trees as I rode the chair lift and skied down. The staff there was great... they identified a safety problem with my binding and took me down the mountain on a sled. Then the rental shop set me up with some new skis, and didn't even charge once they found out we are military. That said, every resort out there claims to have terrain for "everyone," and MRG is no exception - but MRG does not have bunny slopes, and if you arrive on a day when not all the lifts are running (like I did), you may be forced to ride all the way to the top of the mountain to do any skiing at all.

Listen here, I see all the bad reviews of mad river glen are from snowboards upset they are banned from snowboarding here. If you don't ski there please don't post it's unfair. If you want to go, ski!
I've toured skiing, I've been from the west coast, to the east coat, to the French and Swiss aplps, to Argentia, Chile and even to Iran a resort called Dizin.
So you could say I've seen a lot when it comes to skiing. This resort is awesome, it's like skiing from modern days to 1970. The only thing I didn't like about this resort was the long slow, cold-ass rides up the mountain. I know this would go go against everything this resort stands for, but if they put in a high speed gondola (heated, why not?) it would be world class. keep everything else as is. Never let those ice making snowboards in; sliding down the hill on their edge, ruining my black dimonds. Go to killington!
I love this place!! I'm buying shares!!

I love the ratings from the whinning snowboarders. Too funny. Yes, just another reason not to have your type on the hill. Wahhh wahhhh wahhhh. Notice another bad rating from the Brooklyn guy? Guess what? Go to Hunter and stay there. FUUHHHGEEEDDABOUDIT!!!!!! These types obviously don't understand what what this place is all about and I will not waste time explaining it to them. I laughed my tail off when the one person compared this to the midwest... yo dope, there is over 2k of vert at MRG and the most challenging terrain in the east. There is nothing midwest about it. It's ok. This mountain taught them that they don't really know how to ski and now like a child after striking out is complaining that the pitcher cheated... It's ok. Go back to Huntah, make three turns on a 50' wide groomer then brag to your friends how good you are. Wow, you really are that good. Leave Mad River to those of us that appreciates ungroomed, natural terrain at an area that still follows the mantra of the founding father that dates back to 1947, when they first started cutting trails in... &a ski area is not just a place of business, a mountain amusement park, as it were. Instead it is a winter community whose members, both skiers and area personnel, are dedicated to the enjoyment of the sport."

Back when i skied here it was always challenging, that was many years ago, since i started snowboarding, they havent seen my buisness obviously, when i went with some friends to the mountain a few years later just to look around it was like stepping pack in the past, looks like they didnt get on the money train to improve services like other resorts did with the big money other resorts got allowing from snowboarders. looks like to me and the 100,000 plus snowboarders in north america wont be spending money here

I honestly have no idea what the rage is about Mad River Glen. The trails were ungroomed, but we were not prepared for hitting rocks and dirt. The lodge was depressing-- not that this is why we ski, but it lacked. I understand people are happy that there are no snowboarders, but this cut-rate vibe was not for us. I expected a back to nature raw outdoorsy experience and instead felt like I was skiing in the midwest.

OMFG this place is nuts! I thought I was a good skier until I had my butt handed to me in those woods. If you go to Mad and you are looking for powder, ask someone who looks like a local (beard, duct tape, FAT tele boards and wool pants) "where do those tracks go?"
Skiing steep terrain at Mad is like whitewater kayaking. If you pay attention and bring your "A" game it's sick fun! If you don't, well, the patrollers are really friendly and ski like they own the place. Oh yeah, they do - it's a co-op.

Mad River Glen is the best! Great trails, great skiers. Feels like no other place, I wouldn't change a thing.

Though there's no highspeed lifts, the lines are cut in half if not more from the no snowboarding rule. When skiing there, it feels like your actulay skiing the real willderness... somewhat, because they dont make snow (at least from 3 years ago). The trails arn't 1st time skier friendly, but anyone else should come here.

this place is owned by a co-op of skiers- for skiers and not-for-profit.

they don't allow snowboarders NOT because they don't like em. they once did, but that rickety old single chair isn't compatible with the way snowboarders load and unload. and they're not gonna replace it. its the only single chair left in north america i believe.

the place is sick. perhaps the greatest skiers mountain in the country. no frills, just skiing. prices are awesome, and the feeling you get from a place like this is amazing.

YOU MUST SKI HERE.

Mad River Glen is truly the real deal for skiiers who want more that wide, groomed trails. the woods skiing is amazing, and the Ski School can really help anyone, even if you think that you are really good. The people giving bad ratings just dont get it, i've been skiing here for about five years, and there are always new things to impress me! Ski Mad Rive Glen!!! ^_^

It is a small place compared with other, but we really enjoy it. Enjoy the combinations of greens and blue trails, force the beginners like me to take the challenge of blues and blacks.

Pros: no snowboarders if you are a skier, Scenic view, good terrain, you can combine trails, lots of fun with friends here. Good service and nice people.

Cons: No snowboarders allowed if you are a snowboarder, long waiting lines for one person chair lift. Small place.

The one person chare lift is a unique experience, I enjoy it with my friends but in peak season you will have to wait and wait in the line.

Nice place for one day ski.

The people giving low ratings don't get it. This is the real deal. They believe in skiing natural snow which means sometimes there are rocks and bare spots. They often keep trails open that would be closed on other mountains (a good thing). The place is certainly not for whiners, but if you love to ski you will find a variety of terrain. If you're good, go there and find Paradise. If you're a boarder and want to try the resort, learn how to ski. My wife's a boarder and has never been to Mad River. She gets it. She is interested in trying Telemarking this year so she can check it out. Woods and moguls aren't very good on a board and that's what you will find there.

Half of my family skis and the other half boards. We have always wanted to go try out this place but because of their rediculous no snowboarding rule we have to stay on other mountains.
