This resort is at the mercy of Mother Nature. If it doesn't snow, they're screwed, as is usually the case until mid-January. The place has gotten much better since Wolf Creek bought it and changed the name. Parking is better, there are some new runs, and some new "lodges," if you can call them that.

One thing I've always hated about this place is that they don't seem to know what grooming is. You'd think with a resort so small, it would always be neatly groomed. What a joke. This is probably the worst snow in Utah, partly because of the low elevation but mostly because the never groom it. You're often skiing in someone else's ruts, even when you're the first person on the hill in the morning. It's always icy, unless you catch it after a storm, and the main lift is slow and rickety. But for ten bucks on Monday nights, I often find myself there after work. It has to be one of the cheapest mountains on the planet on the right days. And cheap folks like me can't pass that up.

I visited Wolf Mountain with my 2 sons in early March of 2006. We had never tried night skiing before, they had a lift ticket and pizza slice for $15 on Thursday night (for students), so we decided to give it a shot.

The snow was lousy. It was like skiing on snow cone ice. I assume that they did not regroom the slopes for the night session. I had some great days during the same week at nearby Powder Mountain and Snowbasin, however. Wolf Mountain is a bit lower in elevation, so perhaps that had an impact as well.

I also had some problems seeing well on some of the slopes. Perhaps this is a universal problem with night skiing, but it was a bit scary at some points.

This is a pretty small resort, all on one mountain. Lots of the runs criss-cross, so you have to be pretty cautious so you don't get taken out by rampaging snowboarder-especially my kids. :)

Staff was quite friendly, and the kids liked the pizza. I plan on heading back to the Ogden Valley this spring, and will give Wolf another try.

For the price, you can't beat this resort. Yeah, it's small, but I've been there on some days late in the season and only seen ten other people on the entire mountain. Where else in the world can you find that? There is an entire lift dedicated to a sort of bunny hill, instead of a crappy towrope like at most other resorts. Beginners can progress rapidly here, without worrying about skiing into other people. There are a few challenging runs, but you probably don't want to spend an entire day/night here because it will get boring with so few runs. But just going for the night is awesome. It's a short drive without steep hills or narrow roads, and again, you can't beat the price here or find smaller crowds. The facilities suck, but you're so close to town that it really doesn't matter.
