If you want a great skiing experience and you are not exclusively a double or triple black skier, this is the place, especially if you are not price sensitive.
On the other hand, if you are occasionally featured in Warren Miller films, on a strict budget, you probably want to go somewhere else. Deer Valley is unique and not for everyone, but it is my favorite place to ski for the obvious reason--limited crowds, no snowboarders, extensive grooming, great kids programs, higher levels of service than anywhere else.
But I am middle-aged and not particularly good (easy blacks are my limit). Even though the stats say it has a 3000 foot drop, it's really half that, but that's totally fine for me. So, if this sound appealing, then join us Deer Valley fans, but if this sounds boring, then you probably should go somewhere else because you probably would like somewhere else better and spend 30% less.

Go here if you want to do a double diamond (flat and groomed that is) before getting back on a plane to Virginia to tell all your friends what kind of xtremo terrain you vanquished.
So overrated and so over hated by locales for a reason. Bland, boring slopes perfectly matched for its bland and boring clientele.
Oh, and they rent one piece Boogner suites here...does tell you anything?
Avoid it like the plague.

worst deal in skiing, at least for advanced drop in day skiers. only 1400 vertical on the "advanced" runs. grooming scraped down to ice by 11, it is so over groomed. one hilltop has 3 quads dumping hundreds of skiers in each others' face, then you ski down in a crowd. really up tight ski patrol, our foursome of fiftyish ex competitors who ski safe, never fall and keep away from other skiers was harassed twice, once for skiing too fast and once for following a "private" trail past some houses (with open house signs, go figure), they even followed us to the parking lot and took down our license #, that's personal service at it's best. miles of beginner gullys filled with snowplowers and instructors. houses all over the mountain, just like my least favorite golf courses. "uncrowded?" i waited 20 minutes to get my burger order in, and it was 20 bucks for burger fries and glass of beer. the nicest employees are the international kids running the lifts.

Four factors place Deer Valley as my top choice in Western ski resorts:
1. No snowboarders!!!
2. Immaculate grooming - corderoy all the way!
3. Plenty of High-Speed Quads
4. Crowd control - the resort limits the number of skiers on the mountain by selling some 5,000 lift tickets per day.

So its expensive. There is no free lunch anywhere. The only downer for athletes is the relative scarcity of challenges. But, no boarders, fewer four-letter words, more courtesy, 'way better food, and the condition of the slopes is head and shoulders above most others. Go for it if you can!

I'm local and I ski and snowboard. I've never been impressed with Deer Valley. If you are a "true" diehard skier, you don't want to go here. You should go to either Snowbird or Alta (if you don't want those "crazy" boarders running into you every 2 feet) It's to expensive, and they groom everything. Sorry Stein!
