I skied at Jay Peak when I younger and never paid to much attention to Owl's Head. However, in looking for less expensive areas to ski and a more family oriented setting, we have found gold. We stay at the Apartment Hotel (basic but fine) and the kids ski on every morning. There are practiaclly no crowds or liftlines and the grooming is perfect. They offer terrain that can make skiing fun with some good steeps and many nice cruisers that turn often and provide off chutes to other trails. You can always get to a chairlift with out skating. It is peaceful and friendly. Only drawback, no night life and limited dining options unless you take a drive.

I have been skiing at Owl's Head for approximately 35 years and it has some of the most diverse and interesting terrain. To qualify this, first and foremost it has a true mountain apprearance which is approx. 1700 vt. ft. which is very peaked not some ridge that offers mostly fall line skiing. It's trails twist and turn and undulate in some places. There are of course numberous fall line top to bottom trails also which you can exit several times to discover other parts of the mountain without having to go to the bottom to find a chair to those other trails. There is an amazing view of Lake Memphremagog part way down an intermediate trail called 'Lilly's Leap'. The view just opens up as you round a corner on the trail. I stop hear and listen to skiers visiting Owl's head for the first time. They all say WoooooooW, what a view. The snowmaking and grooming is probably the best in the East. Because of the expert grooming, I have skied at Owl's Head when other areas are either very icy or closed. Because Owl's Head is about an extra 20 minute drive out of the way from other ski resorts in the Eastern Townships, you will have the mountain to yourself. Sat. is a bit busy with a 1 to 5 minute wait for lifts and Sun. maybe 5 to 10 min. at the most. Incidentally the weekday rate last year was $17. I believe, even less for seniors. Value.....well check their website, the best value in truely slopside accommodations and meals in Eastern Canada. The hotel offers basic rooms, some with lofts, great restaurant for dinner (20 foot ceilings and windows to match), cafeteria for breakfast and lunch. The slopside Condo's.....I could live there. Call well ahead though because there are limited number of accommodations slopside and they always book up early. Call and you won't be disappointed.

I've been there twice, and practicly no one was there, so no lines. Great prices, and 3 of 8 lifts are high-speed. Little small, but its all right to go on the same trail again here because its so awsome.
