Of all the ski mountains north of Ottawa, I tend to ski at Mont Ste. Marie which is approx. 1 hours north of Ottawa. For the extra 30 to 40 minute drive further north it provides the highest vertical (1,200 vt. ft.) and most diverse terrain. Crowds...well given it has actually two independant mountains that interconnect it spreads the skiers out. Mid-week you generally have this mountain to your self. Sat. are a bit busier, however if you start out with a few runs off the mountain in front of the main lodge then ski over to the other mountain you can ski there most of the day with no crowds. Sundays are very busy so get there at lift opening and ski to 2 pm and you will still enjoy the day. Very good snowmaking and grooming. There are mid-week specials 2 for ones, ladies and mens days etc. Lift tickets are in the mid $30. range. Accommodation is limited to a few condo's slopeside and area hotels about 10 to 20 minutes away. Great mountain for 1, 2 or maybe 3 days. Activites are mostly apres ski at the main lodge or if staying overnight try the longest bar in the Gatineau in Kazabazawa 15 minutes from the mountain.
