I visited Mt. Bachelor during Presidents Day week of 2006. They had just come through a dry, cold spell and had not had any new snow for quite a while. The surface was hard but well groomed.

I was fairly unimpressed with Mt. Bachelor as a ski area. The terrain was monochromatic and I became bored with it quickly. I skied Outback and Nortwest most of the two days I was there with one side trip to the Summit to say I'd done it. I really couldn't tell the difference in difficulty between the blue and black runs, everything was at the same pitch.

I frequently ski at Mt. Baker, Stevens Pass, and Whistler which all have much more variety. I suppose it's because Bachelor is a volcano that the slope is so uniform.

In Bachelor's favor, it looks like the tree skiing would be fantastic on a powder day, but when I was there the snow off the groomed runs was like concrete.

My experience with the food was horrible. I NEVER throw away food, I'm a human garbage can, but I dumped my soup after one taste.

I suspect that this would be a good area for intermediate to lower advanced skiers. Skiers who live for powder would really enjoy it right after a big dump.

Great views, fun mountain and potentially great lift system. Unfortunately, the management doesn't have a clue how to run a mtn. I am from Portland and have over past few years just about given up on Mt Bach. The chairlifts rarely all run . . Summit due to weather and the others due to poor maintenance or economics. I just paid $52 the past two days and only really had two chairs that worked . . and those stopped numerous times for minutes at a time. Skyliner was 20 minutes late in opening due to mech problems. Outback dumped oil a week ago and was still shut down and having problems. A Summit chair fell off last spring . . of course, not reported. I was there when it happened . . closed the lift for rest of the day. Sorry, but I'm going to Mt Hood from now on.

This place is a enthusiasts mountain. many riders complain of the lack of steep terrain, but in reality the mountain makes up for it. this place has acres and acres of tree runs that will challenge any pro, and the northwest side is dedictaed completely towards powder. the variation in terrain is vast, and every skill level of rider will have fun here. there are crowds occasionally, but the high-speed quad lifts take care of that effortlessly. the only down fall to this mountain, is the management. powder corp. bought mt. bechelor from the city of bend in 2001, and since then service has been slowly spiraling. the personnel are nice, but it used to be better. where powder corp really hit mt.bachelor is in lift maintenence and prices. you can still buy a lift ticket for cheap, but every other service on the mountain has been jacked up in the name of profit. also the quality of maintenence has gone down. pine marten (the main lift) never used to stop for 15 minutes for no reason. luckily that will be changed, as a whole new lift replaces pine martin this summer. overall this is a great mountain. enthusiasts of the sport will love it and not be bothered by any of its shortcomings. this mountain is not, though, for the old couple that wants a vacation, as the prices for everything except for lift tickets are high and it has no village at the base (which also means less crowds).

I have never rode on this type of terrain ever and it was the best. Mt. Bachelor resort was the best trip ever.
