I ride Platty all summer because of the amazing world class downhill mountain bike terrain. When it gets pounded with snow all those MTB trails turn into amazing freeride ski/board terrain. I'm about to contact Lazlo about setting up a freeride tour guide system at Plattekill. I know the trails better than ski patrol and can definately find the goods and get fresh tracks on the most technical terrain at Platty. Contact d1graffix@yahoo. come next time we get a serous snow storm for a real tour of Plattekill.

I went up for a day trip a week after a snow storm in february and had a great time boarding. There was still plenty of snow (some of it still untouched) even a week later. Most other mountains would have packed it all down within a day.

The terrain itself was much better than I expected. Though the mountain only has a little over 1000' feet vertical, it makes good use of it. For beginners, there are 2 long novice trails and a few groomed blue cruisers. On the harder side, there are a bunch of twisty narrow trails and several steep bumped runs straight down the mountain. One thing to speak of for boarders is that the terrain park isn't much more than a couple jumps and rails.

The lifts were a little slow but really not bad when you consider that you make up for it by not standing in a lift line. The crowds were hardly existent even though it was probably one of the most popular skiing weekends in what had previously been a really warm/dry season in the northeast.

As for everything else: I was happy my ticket was cheap (especially with a student discount). The staff was nice and the whole place generally had a small, friendly feel. One thing you won't find here is a big resort town with raging night life (not that I cared). But, if you're looking for a good SKIING/BOARDING experience, this, in my opinion, might be top 10 in the east.

FAGETTABOUTIT!! SPLATTEKILL has the hidden powder stashes and drops your looking for. If your willing to look through the trees tons of chutes and drops are there. The slow ass lift is the only problem with Platt.

Great terrain, great snow, no crowds!

Plattekill may not be as easy to get to as Hunter, but its well worth the extra driving. The terrain and snow are what make this mountain special. It is like a smaller version of Mad River Glen, and 3 hours closer.

The staff at the mountain are all helpful and friendly, even the parking lot attendents are there to help out. The ticket prices are reasonable and while the lifts are a bit slow, the lack o f high speed quad chairs means that the trails are not crowded and the snow will not get skied off right away.

We skied in late February and there was still plenty of snow from the storm 2 days earlier. At Hunter the new snow would have been gone and you're skiing on an icy base. Plattekill also had a great GS race course and the race was well run. The cafeteria is limited, but the whole place has a small town atmosphere which is refreshing in this day and age of corporate ski areas.

The place is a throwback to the 1960s, but then it is refreshing to ski in this kind of area that is becoming more and more rare. The terrain is a lot of fun, the 1100 ft vertical is enough to keep most skiers satisfied and it's steep enough to make it interesting. Plenty of bumps and woods too!

I've been going to Plattekill since attending SUNY Delhi back in 1992. As far as skiing the Catskills I'll steer clear of the over rated/ over crowded resorts. Plattekill will always be one of my faves!

My favorite area in New York hands down. New York's own Mad River Glen. The soul of skiing lives here. I'm just crying that I won't be there tomorrow's Powder Daize and the 29+ inches of cold smoke that's fallen today.

i can't wait until the season starts!! plattekill is a great place to ski. the only thing is that plattekill needs some more park action. table tops, spines, booters, rails, and more terrain overall. i love ski plattekill and don't go anywhere else. mangled donkeys ski team rules!!!!!!

I love this place for the terrain, and the atmosphere! It is my favorite place in the world to be!! Biggest problem at Plattekill is that people dont tip the ski instructors! Come on people! You save money on everything else, and you have a great experience, throw a little towards those instructors!

First and foremost... Not enough groms in PLAMO!! Great big mountain terrain and sheer marketing genius make the trip to Plattekill one of our favorites. Just as you were about to complain about the grooming, stop and think to yourself that this mountain operates on half the necessary staff and even less funding. Bomb the trees, love the bartender, and beware the ECC!

This a great Resort! By far, the least crowded of the region. There are no lift lines and I found plenty of fresh snow.

Plattekill is a hidden gem, that maintains the laid-back, family atmosphere while still being a great place to let loose!

Closer to North Jersey than Hunter as well!!!

The Mountain has a good selection of trails, and i heard the new terrain park is nice. Plattekill would be a lot better if they would learn how to groom

If you love Mad River Glen with only time for a day trip--- this is where you go!!!!

When it snows big and you want to actually ski the new powder--- this is where you go!!!!

If you want to avoid the Holiday Weekend Rampage--- this where you go!!!!

If your a ski purest who's there for great turns, great snow, and spending your time on the mountain not in the Sushi Bar---- this is where you go!!!!

If you want to get drunk, be obnoxious, climb all over everyones skis on the liftlines, and generally behave like a pinball down the mountain---- then please go to Hunter, they like your kind there anyway!!!!

This is the best kept secret in the Catskills. Big mountain terrain and your skiing the entire vertical no run out back to the lifts here folks!!! Being open only on Weekends and Holidays means when it snows it lasts. And the lack of crowds means trails DON'T get skied off by noon like their neighbors. Yes they are more heavily dependent on natural snow, so the season can start slow, and they may not recover as quickly from an ice event but even that is improving. Food isn't 4 stars but I find enough variety to keep my energy levels up, after all I'm there to be on the mountain, besides they don't mind if you pack your own lunch.

Finally the best for last. Powder Daize!!!! When Plattekill gets 12" or more they WILL be open next day (no matter what day of the week) and let you ski it!!!! They don't rush out and pack it into their base so they can be open when everyone is playing Golf!!!. I have been there for knee deep powder numerously over the years. Where will you find that, a day trip, from NYC.

Plattekill is the only mountain that I will actually leave Vermont for. I love this hardcore little mountain. The steeps, the bumps, the prolific light powder... oh Blockbuster, how I love thee, let me count the ways!
