To set the record straight, I appreciate the skiing we have at all the central NY areas - they all have their merits. To cut to the chase with McCauley, its got great terrain. Period. I just read someone's review of Song Mt. (which is my immediate motivation to submit this review) where they compared it to a mini Mad River. With all due respect to Song, which is a nice facility, it doesn't deserve a comparison to Mad River. McCauley and Hickory do compare when it comes to terrain. Hickory may be longer and it's "quaint" lift service is reminiscent of Mad River's single chair, but McCauley has more snow (mostly natural, but artificial to complement) and is therefore open consistently through the season. And they have a chair, which helps in recovery from lactic acid build up from your last run. The lack of crowds insures that you'll need the rest on the ride up. Ski shop guys are great - Jeff runs a great shop and he has the best ski tuning around with the help of Louie the former Olympic skier. Good food and fun little bar for when your legs give out. And the tickets are CHEAP! All this and a family atmosphere to boot. No, I don't have a vested interest (it's owned by the town). Just appreciative of a great place to ski when time or funds don't allow travel to Vermont or out west. If you understand the reference to Mad River, you won't be disappointed.

Great little family mountain will all levels of alpine skiing, snowboarding. Event happenings on occasion, night skiing on occasion. Special lift ticket prices after the 1st of each year, usually during the week days. Some great deals!!! Also great cross country ski trails. Plan on heading back for more skiing. The hospitality is welcoming.
