Campgaw was nearest and most convenient where I live, about 45 mins away. I have started skiing 10 years ago but stopped to pursue career. Now that I have a 9 year old son, Campgaw has been nothing short of a great and convenient experience for him (and me).
All the previous reviews are right on. This is great for beginners and intermediates, esp. if they prefer the small and manageable runs. I feel there's a right balance of green and blues, the so called advanced run from the top is a short one (I wouldn't really rank it a *full* black diamond), but great if you're an intermediate wanting to get a taste of what it could feel like for an advanced trail. There is a mid station unload area that most beginners/intermediates would need to get used to since it has a bit of a drop and quick left.
Crowds vary depending on day and time of course, but no where close to the big commercial resorts. The rental skis are not bad (Rossignols Cut 2's) but they kinda have really old poles.
Bottom line, if you or a loved one is starting out or just wanting to put in a couple of relaxed runs for the day (or night after work), with not too bad of a crowd, short drive from where you live, and bonding with your kids, this is the place. The value of a season pass is the best.

Campgaw isn't really a mountain... it's really a big hill. The "six trails" it boasts are really one wide trail. Now, that being said, it's not bad for it's free terrain park if you want to learn a half pipe or to go off some jumps. If you're anything but a beginner, however, you're going to wish you went to another mountain.
