There is more than meets the eye at the mountain. Pick your day right and you'll be back for a long time!

This is a mountain for experienced skiers ... my girlfriend is an advanced intermediate skier and found this to be a bit daunting. It didn't help that the trails are not so well marked, our second run somehow landed us on hard scrabble, a difficult (and almost endless) decent. We made the best of it, got lucky with the weather (no wind) and found a few trails that were intermediate, but be aware, most trails are steep so this is not for the intermediate level skier looking for a relaxing day on the slopes.

I've been skiing and riding Canon for as long as I can remember. Although it can be known for strong winds and ice, it's a guaranteed good time if you're an experienced skier. Make sure you bring warm clothes and tuned skis. If your edges are dull, you're going to have a hard time.
Once in a while Canon will get dumped on and I can't think of a better place to be when NH gets hit with snow. The tram provides quick transportation to the top with plenty of advanced runs. It's always fun to race the tram to the bottom as well :-)
There are rarely lift lines, always plenty of room in the lodge and the views are beautiful. As a skier, there are plenty of groomers as well as bumped up runs. From a snowboarding point of view, the only time you will need to remove your board to get to a lift is when you're cutting over to the tram if you don't keep your speed up. The mountain does have a newer terrain park that I appreciate, but it's nothing extensive. It's more of a free riding mountain. I'm not aware of any other activities offered, such as tubing, because why would you pass up such a great riding experience to ride some sled?

Best NH Mtn.. good value and lack of crowds. great place to ski rather than stand in line. Can be a bit cold, windy and icy in late day- thats the downside to Cannon. But otherwise good steeps and terrain. Recommended!

I live in NH and ski throughout New England. There are only 3 ski mountains in New England hat are still focused on the traditional experience and they are Cannon, Wildcat, and Jay Peak. The lines are short, the terrain is diverse, and the conditions depend more on their environment.
If you are looking for a pre-packaged resort experience, please go to Loon, Sunday River, or Nashoba Valley. If you cannot deal with the mostly natural terrain features, please stay on the green trails. These mountain's trail are graded on difficulty, not comparatively to the other trails on the mountain. If you are truly a black diamond skier you will appreciate this, if not you will falsely estimate your abilities.
The tram is GREAT, but there are only difficult ways down. My 7 year-old can make it, but my wife cannot. To me that equals great terrain, limited crowds, and two for one deals make it a great value!
Come to NH where God makes men (great women too).

This is an expert mountain. It was too hard for me. Not because of the steepness of the trails, but of the ICE! I went to the top and skied down this trail and it was the iciest trail I had ever done. I am really on black diamond level, but because of the ice I spent most of my time in the beginner area. LOL!

We skied it yesterday...decent cover, quite steep. It was two experienced skiers and one experienced snowboarder. We did the best we could for being out of shape. Upper entrance is like something from Mad River Glen (think Lynx)
then the main chute is pretty daunting. Its a slow run, methodical and technical. Lots of rocks and almost better if its thin cover or 10 feet of powder. Anything in between makes it tougher since you cant see the little 2 foot rocks under the fluff. Its tight at tower one, but there are 2 options to deal with that area. Two quick turns for a skier, one or two for a boarder, or you can jump the 6 foot rock face, or go skiers-left around most hazards (with little room to turn).
Overall, if you can ski Paradise at Mad River youll be fine. If you can ski Goat at Stowe, or are able to ski down from Mansfield Summit, youll be fine. If you can ski Tucks, youre fine.
However, being able to ski Outer Limits or White Heat doesnt mean youre ready for Tramline. Its definitely harder than almost every double diamond in the North East.

What a great Mnt for NH, I was at loon the day before and I am glad I made the decision to try Canon. And the best part is the bonus trails off the map. I plan to come back again some time.

a really good NH resort. gets good snow, good views, good skiing.
Bode Miller's home base. kinda cool.
it has some steeps, and backcountry. but good cruisers prevail. a good family mountain, with a good feel. i like this place.
