We have statyed at the Eagle Mountain House several times throughout the year. We find this hotel an ideal central location for exploring the Mt. Washington Valley and shopping at the tax-free outlet stores in nearby North Conway.

In the winter the mega-trails of Jackson Touring are right outside the hotel's front door, a real plus for the cross country ski buffs. This hotel has an excellent relationship with Great Glen Trails and their tubing center, cross country trails, and rock climbing wall, as well. This is one of the few true family friendly hotels in Jackson! We find this hotel offers a great price-value.

For the downhill skiers and boarders, this hotel is just minutes from Attitash, Wildcat, Cranmore, Brettonwoods, and just across the valley from Black Mountain which is a great family friendly mountain.

In the summer, this hotel has one of the most unique 9-hole courses around. This is a great course for students, beginners, not-so-serious golfers, and women. But don;t let this course fool you...the course is USGA rated and offers on of the best golf pros in the business, Bob McGraw who is a certified PGA pro! The views from just about any hole on this course can be jaw-dropping. The course winds around the Wildcat River, the first river in America that was given a protective status. But experienced golfers will be challenged on a few of this course's holes, as well.

Not to missed in the summer months are the beautiful flower gardens that surround this hotel. But as noted earlier, this hotel's location is ideal for all sorts of outdoor summer activities -hiking, fishing, etc. The hotel has an outdoor heated pool which is open during the summer and keeps the kids busy for hours!

The hotel itself is classic New England-white clapboards, green shutters and a 280 foot veranda. In fact, this hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places. The floors creek, door knobs are a bit wobbly - but you would to if your were conceived in 1879. This hotel says it is a grand dame that makes no pretense about her age...is refreshingly honest...and true. It is like going to grandma's house when we were kids.

The guest rooms are comfortable and I would recommend one of the larger family suites if you are traveling with an entourage. The rooms offer a four poster bed, comfortable side chair and ottoman and color TV with what appears to me an endless number of channels. The bathrooms were recently renovated and very attractive. The rooms are not air conditioned which poses very few problems in our opinion...there is an endless supply of cool mountain air in the evenings.

The public spaces are pure New England. What we like is the WIFI high speed internet access available throughout the building. The kids enjoy the library with it books and collection of family friendly games and puzzles.

The Tavern offers beverages at reasonible prices. The menu offers a wide array of pizza, munchies, burgers and complete dinners in the evenings. The Tavern is equiped with TV's that offer all the current ESPN sports programming you would ever want to see.

The Dining Room is both casual and dressy, and best of all it is really family friendly. The food is New England and offers a number of specials each evening. Our recommendation is the Friday night Prime Rib Dinner for Two at just $24.95! All the food on the Tavern menu is available in the Dining Room; but here you will find an array of fish, steaks, duck, etc. Prices are fair and the portions are large.

Downstairs you will find a game room that will keep the kids occupied for days. The video games, classic pinball will test your limits for quarters; but, the ping pong table is free! There is a washer and drier onsite which enables us to keep ahead of the laundry game during our extended stays. There is a whirlpool and saunas located in this area as well.

Bottom line is...this hotel is something Disney could not even create. Prices are fair, the accommodations are comfortable and basic, the food is good and plentyful, and the costs are fair and reasonable. And all of this is made even better by an extremely friendly staff!
