I visited Wolf Ridge for the first time on probably their busiest weekend of the year. Althought I loveed the resot, it is definitly NOT a place to take a beginner skier. Here is why.
First, the double-lift to get to a beginner area (Broadway) is EXTREMELY tricky for a beginner skier. The slope to get on the lift it steep and there is a sharp turn right before you get on the lift, NOT GOOD for someone learning to ski. And the beginning part of EAGLE (access from the quad-lift) should really be more of a blue trail. I skied it and it gets jammed up because every beginner gets off and then sees what they must ski down to get out to broad way.
Secondly, the "bunny area" is very small and is right in the middle of where everyone is sking into, they should really move this to another area and control the flow into and around this area. Seriously... The line for people getting onto the quad lift spilled into this area only making things worse because you had people standing around while people (nervous people) are trying to learn to ski...
Finally, the best area to ski on the mountain is at the upper lodge, which is rated green. However, to get to this area(via trail), you are forced to ski a blue area, that really is closer to black. And to return to the southern lodge, forget it, you are forced with either a black trail or a long and very challenging blue trail.
I do like the amount of areas to ski and broadway is fantasitc. However, the "trail map", in no way reflects the actual trails. We had to ask for directions twice...
Regardless of my complaints, I will definitely go again, but NEVER on a weekend.. This is, in my opinion, one of the best places to go in the south. But lookout for ICE!
