Our family stayed at the mt.,Christmas eve to Dec 28th, although we could walk to the slopes,( I picked to stay close hoping to get a lot of skiing in, but the weather didn't help) the snowboarders were out of control and ski patrol were few and far between. The staff were very helpful, prices to ski were very, very high even though there were limited runs open with them trying all, all, night to blow snow. They should price the tickets in proportion to how many slopes are open,or lifts are running. With no winter value pkg available $1,161.33 for 4 nights is very pricy to not ski . At $62 for full day and $23 for night skiing is $85 for one day skiing , but with only 5 lifts running, go as soon as they open till noon or you will wait in line for at least 5 cold mins, and only easy street, lower flying mile, upper flying mile, northridge, switchback, load off,tom terrific ,big birch open the price should be $4.25 a slope or $34.REALLY.
The tube hill never opened.
By the time we were leaving they were losing there base and their slopes to the mud and rocks.
Christmas was saved by eating at the Best Western lunch buffet as recommended by Ski Country which had good ski rentals.
When they say, bring your own toliet paper, they only give you 1 role per bath as the town rolls up the streets and opens the 26th. For the amount of 4 nights they should invest $5. in a box of tissues ,another role of toilet paper and a roll of paper towels.
We will not be back!

I went to Sugar this past Sunday with a group of friends. We drove 5 hours from Atlanta to get there and when we arrived the weather was really cold. However, due to warmer weather earlier in the week there was no depth to the snow base.

We paid for our lift ticket and ended up skiing on frozen grass, frozen mud, and some rocks that were haphazardly left all along the ski path. Not to mention since this was the first cold day of the week, they were blowing so much snow so that we couldn't even see.

Maybe it was partly because of the weather, but this was the worst experience I had ever had.

Okay - I don't have anything to compare this to. I have been to Sugar twice. Once with a group on the weekend and then midweek. Yes, it was crazy packed in the afternoon while there on a weekend, but great midweek. No one but a group of kids skipping school. I took lessons and had a great experience from the instructor, ZT - very knowledgable and patient. Since it is March - the conditions worsened as the day progressed. I rented all of my equipment from Extreme which is located at the entrance to Sugar. Very efficient rental place. Food is expensive - crazy expensive. $2.75 for a Pepsi in a cup. One suggestion, put a change machine out so folks can get quarters for the lockers. No one will change a $1.00 unless you walk down to rentals. When I was there on the weekend someone did have their skis stolen. Also, I thought the ski patrol and the emergency reponders were great, and they provided a level of control and safety.

I have skied Sugar on two different occasions: once as a chaperone for a group of high-school seniors from here in FL, and then once on a personal road trip. I was an instructor out in Oregon before moving here, so I didn't expect much. I've been pleasantly suprised by the snowfall (even though it's largely machine-made). However, the service was very very poor, the lifts need an overhaul, and the terrain park desparately needs some work! And before I forget, It's highly overpriced... HIGHLY. Robbery comes to mind...

I went here with my family for a half day of riding. We drove 4 hours over, from HS to enjoy a day at the slopes. The whole experience was the worst I have even experienced. The ticket counter was bad, rentals were even worse, and customer service took the first place prize for uselessness. This was all before my snowboard was stolen from in front of the place while we ate lunch upstairs, because the downstairs is reserved for people who buy the over-priced food served there. Anyway, the experience was bad, bad, bad. Don't waste your time or money. Skiing and riding is not cheap. At least the people working at the place could kind of understand this and try and make the day worth all the monay. I've been to VT, NH, CA riding, and this place will never get one more cent or good review, ever!

I have to agree with those that say the service at Sugar is bad enough for me not go back. I didn't use the ski school or any of the activities for children, however if the overall attitude and rudeness of the staff reflects what those services would be like, I'm glad I didn't!

Having learned to ski out west, in Wyoming and Colorado, I was a little hesitant on my first trip to Sugar several years ago. I was pleasantly suprised by the variety of terrain. The only major issue I have with Sugar is the lift lines. They can be really REALLY long on the weekends. With that said, I would recommend Sugar to anyone as a great place for a quick ski vacation. I have been taking my family back every year for four years now. The ski school is excellent with a very friendly and capable staff. I would suggest skiing during the week days or try to avoid holiday weekends if possible. Lift ticket prices are perhaps a little high but the Twilight ski ticket is a great value (in my opinion). The best deal available is a winter value package, take advantage of one if at all possible. It will save between 40% to 50% on your trip and includes lodging, rentals and lift tickets plus ski school discounts.
All in all, I like skiing Sugar and look forward to my trip every year.

We went to Sugar the weekend of Feb 11th and just happened to catch the best conditions of the year. About 18 inches came down over the three days we were there. The snow was great although everyone else and their brother thought so as well which meant the skiers were out in droves. I would highly recommend skiing 8am-noon and at night if possible to avoid the crowds which become horrendous on weekends. If you could ski down for 20 minutes it would average out (like out West), but that's not the case here. Sugar needs a lot of work to handle their crowds. As the areas largest ski resort it seems they would take some of the dough they are raking in and put in one or two high-speed quads. High speed anything would help. Also the lift ticket office only had two windows open at 8:15 in the morning so the lines there were bad too. I overheard the ticket salesperson talking to her boss who told her that other workers were late coming in. That's just sad.

I've definitely been spoiled by Colorado skiing, but really there is no comparison. It's unfortunate that here in the East we have smaller mountains, fewer resorts, a lot of people trying to go to them and unpredictable weather to boot. So if you are going to plan a ski trip to Sugar and want the best out of your experience, try to ski during the week to avoid the crowds, and if possible watch for a good weather pattern and plan only one week in advance. If you decide to pick up skiing or boarding as a real hobby, skip Sugar and other southeastern resorts. Save your money and plan a trip out West. You'll thank yourself. One more tip, rent your equipment from a ski shop in town to avoid the fiasco of renting at the resort. You'll get more personalized service and better equipment without the herds of people.

NEVER AGAIN !!

This is the absolute worst resort I have ever been to. If you like rude customer service and indifferent employee attitudes then you may feel at home here. Let me give you one example of indifferent employee attitudes, after waiting in a line for 2 hours my wife was told by unconcerned empoyees that she would not be able to take my two small children tubeing because the resort had reached its limit on how many tubes could be rented for the session. It appears that if your in line and the resort runs out of tubes then your just out of luck, your told to come back for the next session. If your in line for the last session and they run out of tubes then your told to come back tomorrow. THIS IS REDICULOUS!! This place needs a major operations overhaul. If they know they have a limited number of tubes then perhaps they should count how many people are in line and advise those waiting behind the last available tube that they will not be able to serve them for the current session. This seems to me a simple courtesy.
Example number two: I was litterally yelled at for making the mistake of trying to enter the lodge area with my ski equipment "HEY YOU!! YOU CANT COME IN HERE WITH THAT STUFF" What is that?? A courteously informational statement would have been so much better received.

From the line to buy lift tickets to the line for rental equipment, the disorganization is rampant.

Lastly, Does this place think its Vail or Aspen?? Compare lift ticket prices to some of the more capable resorts out west and see what I mean.

Do your homework on this one folks, in my opinion this place has a lot of work to do with respect to customer relations. I have been to numerous resorts out west and the one thing the ones I have been to have in common is customer appreciation and value. One little known mountain in South Dakota named Terry Peak gave my family some of the best ski memories we have. I guess my point is there are better places to go.
