App is a wonderful resort for families and beginners. I am 13 years old and have skiied for App's junior race team with my three younger brothers for 3 years now. It is a lot of fun, but the slope is not challanging any more. It is not for serious skiers who want difficult terrain to master. App is for having fun and learning with friends and family, not hardcore skiing. What I enjoy most about the resort is the friendly service. When you are friends the lift attendents, you are just about guanteed one more run just after the lifts are closed!

As a group representing more than five families we have visited Appalachian annually for three years and stay a week at a time in the area.
Appalachian has the least acreage and vertical rise of the four resorts in the area and also the furthest (south) from town but has other items that keep us coming back. The lifts are either new or recently replaced as they are in excellent shape. A quad lift services the Terrain Park on one side and the beginner slope on the other side exclusively. That means you don’t have to ride a lift to the top of a mountain for each trip through the park as it is at any other resort I’ve seen. The park here has tables, S and straight rails and some huge snow kickers that will get you airborne for sure and is the best Park in NC in my opinion.
The other quad lift runs parallel to a double to the top that have always run simultaneously unlike Sugar’s that I’ve never seen run at the same time?? The steepest run is very tight with turns and in trees which is ok as long as you don’t come up on a slow poke. The other slopes are really liked by the person who is nearer the start of their rider/skier experience.
Also a ice skate area.
It’s variety offsets the lack of acreage and is worth the visit.
