Great snow conditions but they had several runs closed? What's up with that? Interesting layout with the advanced runs away from the base area and beginner crowds. Very economical and would recommend for a day visit if your passing through the area.

I am reviewing this as compared to other Michigan ski resorts. Also, I am an advanced skier (by Rocky Mountain standards) and I was there with a few equally qualified snowboarders.
I visited Caberfae 3/2-3/4 taking advantage of the great deal they had for staying in their MacKenzie Lodge which is just a few hundred yards from the lifts. The deal was all day and night lift tickets for Friday through Sunday and 2 nights in the lodge for $150 per person with 4 adults in the room. Thats a pretty good deal for a weekend of Michigan skiing.
Anyway we got great snow all weekend which helped keep the terrain interesting as we could find fresh snow on the sides and through the trees inbetween runs all weekend. A weekend of Michigan ice and groomed trails at Caberfae would bore us much more quickly. Due to the way their two manmade peaks (or man modified peaks) are constructed most runs are very similar, steep and icy at the top which mellow out a little as you get toward the bottom. The exception are the green runs off the lifts on North Peak that dont go all the way to the top. The only steep bump run was open briefly on Saturday and I didnt get a chance to try it before they closed it again. There are a few unique lines through the trees on unofficial runs that let you forget for a brief moment that you are in Michigan, but Ill let you find those yourself. The crowds seemed thin for a snowy weekend in a year with little snow, but that may be the norm at Caberfae as they dont have the big draw that the Boynes, Nubs Nob, or Crystal do with more terrain and destination resorts.
The terrain park is situated between the two peaks and looks like very little effort was put into it. There are a series of rails which were ok. But the jumps had poor landings for anything bigger than a medium speed launch and could easily result in a bottom out on the flat part of the run. Also, it was difficult to get good speed for the first jump and rail as there is a flat traverse to get to the terrain park.
The lodge was adequate for the price we paid. The rooms are basically hotel rooms that are a little aged, though they claim to have just finished an upgrade. There is a restaurant in the lodge that serves a breakfast buffet and a dinner menu. We didnt do the breakfast buffet but had a dinner that was reasonably priced and pretty good food. The outdoor heated pool and hot tub looked nice but we didnt try that either. The staff at the lodge were very nice and helpful as well. All in all, the value of what you get for your money at Caberfae will probably bring me back again.

Coming out of OLD EUROPE, and being used to Huge SkiResorts in the Alps i thought of Caberfae being a good resort for Michigan and really enjoyed staying there. Even through its like smaller than even the beginner-area of all SkiResorts in Europe I know of, it was a lot of fun and i can only recommend everyone to go there. I really liked what they did with it and one can surely have fun over there.

Wow, I can't believe the student rates! This place was a way better value than Crystal, and the runs were really good.

Caberfae is a great low-key resort. You get the most for your money. 90% of the time there is no wait at the lifts. The people who work there are great care free people for the most part. The slopes are usually not overcrowded.
With terrain, crowds, and value taken into account I say this is one of the best ski resorts in the lower peninsula, if not the best.
