I skied Wisp for the first time yesterday. I was impressed with the snowfall this mountain received when compared to other ski areas in the DC region. I also found the drive much easier than expected, primarily because the mountain is located close to the interstate. Employees were also friendly.

My overall impression is that Wisp is going through a major renovation effort. The facilities were quite nice, as were the two newest lifts. More terrain is needed, especially for stronger skiers.

As a strong advanced skier, I think this mountain has a few negatives. First, the vertical drop is short, and there is no sustained top to bottom steep run on this mountain. With the above average snowfall for this region, perhaps a few glade trails would do the trick. Second, the mountain could use a new lift, such as a high-speed six to replace Chairs 2 & 3. For intermediates, beginners, and families, this mountain is a great choice.

The resort description does not include new terrain that was opened in 2005-2006 known as North Camp. The resort has been expanding and will continue to expand so long as the the resprt owners can continue to sell slopeside and other property nearby. They are committed to having good skiing as they believe that the better the skiing the better the land sales.
Snowmaking has made this resort one of the first to open and one of the best bases in the MD-WV-PA area.
Good variety on the skiing with some challenging black diamond slopes. I have had a pass for this place for ten years and still enjoy the skiing. If you come on a powder day, expect me and my friends to be first on the lift and carve up the fresh pow before the tourists get a chance.
Deep Creek lake is a resort area with many nice restaurants and accomodations.
