Don't listen to those reviews. I expected more (espacially given it's long drive) and it was dissapointing. I thought this place would have some difficult terrain like the site promised. Lies! Nothing was harder than a weak blue. There's no night skiing which makes the mountain crowded during the daytime (I find it ironic when I went on a busy day, they only operate a few lifts when they have several). I went to nearby Catamount a month later, and it was SO much better than Butternut, EVERYTHING (seriously) beats Butternut. Don't bother.

butternut has good runs. gets boring if you go a lot. the crowds are extremely bad on the weekends and have very slow lifts. the hour+ drive up to Vermont is worth it.

$15 bucks can't be beat m-th. And a season pass is so cheap it's like free. Oh, the are some complaints but the price plus the nostalgia factor makes this a great place.

Don't bring your kids!

My son almost fell off their ski lift after a negligent instructor and lift operator let my 5 year old son on the lift by himself. Even after he said he didn't want to get on without an adult!

Then when I complained, they waited for two months to tell me that they could not even identify the ski lift operator> Nice!

butternut- a good hill for an hour's drive.

crowds are not too bad usually, and they have more terrain the nearby CT hills to spread them.

after a storm, it can be fun. good for families and beginners, it will be boring for advanced sliders. their blacks aren't very tough, and ski sundown's gunbarrel definitely is steeper and longer than anything at butternut by a long shot- but you're not going there for a challenge, anyway.

this place got hit by a tornado 10 years ago, maybe more. i remember it before, and skied there after- its night and day, no big trees, lots of downed brush scattered and in piles. really weird, but cool, feel. things are probably starting to grow back by now.

i like the "butterbutt" overall...
