Having been a season ticket holder at Perfect North for a few years now, I decided to write a second review to capture my further experieces at PNS.

Terrain - 4: Terrain remains a 4. It really isn't bad. The Blue (intermediate) terrain really should be rated Green (beginner) and the Blue/Black should be Blue terrain. Center stage offers decent steeps and gets tracked up, but it's usually a maze of people that don't have any business on it. If you can't make parallel turns, you have no business snowplowing down a black run. I rarely ever take Center Stage anymore, just because the novice skiiers scrape it down to ice, and just plain crowd the run. There are some runs through trees that also provide bump runs, but again, there are people on them that have no business. I'm surprised nobody has seriously been hurt on 1 run in particular.

Service - 1: The service at PNS is lousy. Visiting the pro shop to buy gear or to have your equipment serviced is likened to going to the dentist. A ski tune, which should take no more than 30 minutes, requires a 24 hour turn-around. Outside of lift tickets, I'll not patronize any of PNS' any other side businesses (food, gear, etc)

Crowds - 1: Easily the worst quality. On weekends, the place is flooded with folks from Cinci. It's gotten to the point to where I will not go until after 4pm on a Saturday, as the crowds finally start to thin. PNS needs a High-Speed quad (heck, even a 6-pack) more desperately than any ski hill I've been to. Stay away from the Orange chair. The lines are CRAZY. Really, the White chair is always your best bet. You can access pretty much any area of the hill from the White quad.

Activities - 5: Honestly, you're only really coming here to Ski or board. I find the additional charge for Tubing to be a rip-off. If you're going to spend $40+ on a lift ticket, they should throw in free tubing. I bumped this up to a 5 because there are river boat casinos within 5 minutes' drive of the hill.

Value - 3: $40 isn't bad for a lift ticket, really. Season passes are a bargain and there are a number of choices to suit the number of visits you plan to pay over a season. This would bump up if Tubing were free to lift ticket holders, or they installed a high-speed lift to help with the congestion.

PN is certainly not Vail, but only 30 minutes from Cincinnati, it provides an excellent value...The grooming is the best in the midwest..If the prices were less, the crowds would be unbearable..During the week it is empty until 3:45, then less than 3 minute lift lines..The weakest link is liftline operators..a little instruction would go a long way..no one knows how to use the single line...Sunday am is usually not busy..Food is cheap..Bring your on beer...Fast rental, kids can rent skis for the season, and take them home...(not with snowboards)
Season passes are a bargin..or start your own ski-club..Betty is very helpful, and the club deals can't be beat..Kids ski free till age 7..Buy your passes before July 4th for the best deal..A great little place to ski..very friendly

Here is the breakdown of my score...

Terrain (4)
I LOVED this terrian, however i am an advanced skier. But the reason why i took off a point is that there is a HUGE gap between beginner and intermidiate courses. Someone who has mastered the beginner slopes would fail miserably on the intermiate slopes.

Service (3)
servce was O.K., but when there were long lings for the ski lift, they didn't allways have someone moving the lihne along

Crowds (3)
very very very crowded

Activities(5)
They have one of the best terrian parks in the region

Value (3)
60 bucks for 8 hours....

I call PN the "driving range of ski slopes." Okay, so it's $40 for a lift ticket. Have you seen the crowds? The place is filled to the gills with people! If they charged anything less, it would be stupid busy.
Seriously, PN does a 1st rate job for what they have to work with. Here are some things they do well:
- The snowmaking is top notch. Chip and his crew give lectures to industry groups nationwide on snowmaking and grooming techniques.
- The Ski School is excellent. Lots of instructors with experience teaching out west.
- The new learning area is outstanding. Nice easy grade with magic carpet lifts on either side.
- The terrain is the most variety within 250 miles.
- They just revamped the parking and dropoff areas so that it's a snap to get in and out.

Okay, here's the not-so-good:
- Crowds. The crowds are insane on Saturdays and Sundays in January/February when groups schedule their trips. People come from a seriously long way away to ski there. And they're doing more marketing, not less.
- Related to the crowds is the size of the place. It's too small to accommodate the numbers they draw. There's a neighboring hill that would make a nice expansion... if they could pry it away from the current owner.
- The lodge is a decent size, but it's still too small. It can be impossible to find a place to sit, esp on weekend (bonus, tho... you can bring your own beer and drink in the lodge)
- Lines to get lift tickets can be crazy. I've seen 45 minute waits to get lift tickets and rentals.
- The lifties have *no idea* how to manage a lift line. Seriously. It's not rocket science.
- Cost. Yeah, $40 is ridiculous for 400 vertical feet. You have to either buy a season pass or come with a group to get any value.

My advice? Go in either December, early January, March, or on a weekday. Night skiing can be fun, but be prepared for icy conditions and drunk Indianans.

This is a great place for locals. There is decent terrain, especially for this area. Good place to teach kids (6 and under are free) They do a great job with the snowmaking. Lift line management is good, although tends to get crowded. Did not open white lift on December 22nd, when there was a pretty big crowd. The lift tickets are a little expensive for a weekday, but the 4 hour or 8 hour options are a great idea. Food is good with a reasonable price.

Only go if you must have a day on some slopes. Short, icy, crowded, and expensive, I found Perfect North needing great improvment. The service was poor. The slopes were crowded with boarders and neophyte skiers. The conditions were icy. While grooming help, after the boarders scraped the top layer off, the snow conditions were poor. As long as there are other options available, I doubt that I return.
