Two words best describe Pomerelle. SNOW and FUN. Pomerelle gets the most and best snow in Idaho thanks to a high base elevation and a quirk of nature. New snow comes in big dumps. They do a very good job of grooming and keep the runs in great shape. Fun is from the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This place is very low key and laid back. The employees are some of the most friendly and helpful you will find.
The skiing at Pomerelle is greared to relaxed cruising not extreme steeps. As a matter of fact there is hardly any legitimate expert terrain. Punch Bowl and the runs through the trees in between Liftline and Punch bowl are all there is. Anything else that is marked expert on the trail map is really solid intermediate. Instructor off of the triple chair is a great cruising run. Another of my favorite runs off of the triple is the high traverse above Bull and come down the face. The strength of Pomerelle skiing comes at the lower end of the spectrum. The raw beginner has a separate area with a magic carpet lift that is perfect for learing. After the beginner has some experiece they are ready for one of the best novice runs around. Off of the double chair is Milk run. Milk is wide easy and always well groomed. The double chair which goeas about 2/3 of the way up the hill has several mild runs that twist down through the trees. Kids and snowboarders also go for Yah Hoo, a flat boring run that has lots of jumps off of snowdrifts and winds through the trees.
Pomerelle has a fairly good terrain park off of Buttermilk run for the crazies. The lodge is fairly small and basic. If there are school buses in the parking lot when you pull up the lodge will be crowded with kids who just throw their gear everywhere. If not, the lodge and the slopes will be uncrowded and quiet.
Overall Pomerelle is a relaxing place to ski, with cruising runs and great snow. With only a 1,000ft vertical it skies fairly long. Just don't expect any steep expert runs and you will have fun.
I wish Pebble Creek got the snow Pomerelle gets.
