Kevin sounds a little bitter... maybe a Texan ran off with his wife.

Wolf Creek is without a doubt the best resort I've been to. The best part is, you can't even really call it a resort. It's just an affordable good time! Tree skiing, powder weeks after a major storm, good music playing at the lifts (instead of relentless 90's pop), helpful staff, little to no people. I mean, it's just wonderful. They even have discount days like local and college days, which is just amazing, considering most resorts would never dream of giving a discount.

Well, Kevin, I'm a Texan and I know its "their" blue jeans, not "there." Idiot.

Great powder; the best in Colorado. If you want 3 more feet of snow then anywhere else then Wolf Creek is worth the drive.

What a great time. We went in mid january '07 and the place was empty despite the 4.5 feet of snow we got! What a dream. The summit had very fast wind gusts but we were prepared and the whole alberta area had low winds....And no one goes over to that area. There must have only been 20 people in the whole area in the middle of the day. We had fresh powder runs every time...with only a little effort to go off the beaten path. If you hurt yourself, your SOL. If someone does find you hurt, you'll have to be airlifted to durango....so watch out for those trees and dropoffs. Ski with a couple friends if your in the area serviced by the Alberta lift.

The road has recently been widened and upgraded to modern mountain pass standards. If you read old reviews people complain about how bad it is. We did it in a front wheel drive car with no chains, although we were the only FWD car in the parking lot, it's doable.... just a little scary when its a near white-out. The plows keep the layer of snow on wolf creek pass to a minimum although they dont seem to run when WC opens or closes bc there are too many cars driving rediculously slow when lots of snow is coming down. One time it took us 2 hours to get to Pagosa Springs. Ususally just takes 30 minutes.

If you're sticking to the groomed runs, WC will seem small. And if you're staying off advanced, expert, and tree runs but still want adventure....you will not find it. WC does little grooming....keeping it the way a lot of people like it.

All in all the best experience for me ever. I'll be going back march '07 and hopefully avoiding all the long lines at big name resorts.

My first experience at Wolf Creek was last winter after five feet of snow fell in three days. The powder was shoulder high and light. The far left lift was never crowded and has runs that consist of trees, cliffs, and are to difficult for all those texans. So the powder was there from 4 in the afternoon. Love wolf Creek, most snow in colorado!

This is the first time that I had been skiing but it was such an awsome experience! The teachers are absolutly awsome and the guys in the rental booth are great.

I love it there, not only because it's where I learned to ski, but the fact that it's not hyped up. There's not a "vilage" or anything. Wolf Creek is all about skiing/boarding. I also like the fact that not everything blue is a groomer because A) tests your ability to be a technical skier and B) makes the inexperienced skiiers/boarders far less likely to cause an accident. BTW..I am also a fan of WC because I work there!

My family and I ski every spring break in Wolf Creek for the last 4 years. We have tried other places too but it seems that the staff in the resorts are rude and snobbish. Wolf Creek is family oriented. It's a big plus with my kids. They love that place. It's nice to go ski someplace and you see some of the same faces year to year, and they recognize you back! Hey Texas! We stay in Pagosa Springs when we go. there is a must do list for Pagosa springs. You must eat at Ole Miner's Cafe. Yum! You must visit the candy store located downstairs below the pharmacy. Loads of candy and awesoooome fudge! You must go walk the wildlife reserve. Say Hi to Katie, Rufus, Hunter, and Butt head Bob for us! This destiantion is way relaxing...

Been there 3 times and always had a great time. Not a "resort"...a great place to ski. We have stayed in both Pagosa Springs and South Fork...we prefer Pagosa. There is always plenty of snow in Wolf Creek. Try the Alberta Lift for the shortest lines if you are an advanced skier.

Wolf Creek is a skier's ski area. No fancy outfits (I saw ski clothing there that I haven't seen in decades), hearty, reasonably priced home-cooked meals at the restaurant and--best of all-- tons of snow. We happened to be there for Superbowl and there was a "local's special"--half price lift tickets. I told the ticket seller that we were from New Mexico and he said, "If you can stand in front of this window, you're a local." Apres-ski in the hot springs in Pagosa is an added bonus. Good place to learn to ski powder and get over Fear of Trees.

My daughter (13 y/o now) have skiied Wolf Creek early March '04 and '05. The crowds were non-existant as we were lucky enough to be going the week before 'normal' spring break. We talked with one of the workers and they were expecting 4000/day the next week ('05).

Neither of us are real experienced skiers, we have skied in 3 other CO areas ( Brek, KeyStone, Copper) and always wish we were at Wolf Creek. Not knocking the others, Copper was lots of fun but WC is much more layed back and has terrain that more than challenges us.

The last two trips we stayed in South Fork. The place pretty much goes dormant at dusk. I would recommend the country club for dining if you are in South Fork. The food was a no more expensive than the other places in town and it was very good.

For our '06 trip we are headed back to WC and will be staying in Pagosa Springs. We can't wait...

Although I've lived in Texas for the past 12 yrs, I grew up skiing in Vermont. We went to Wolf Creek over Spring Break '05 and had a great time. The snow was double any other resort in Colorado w/155" base, plus we caught a fresh foot of powder the first day we were there. Although it was the most crowded time of the year (over 4,500 skiers per day), the Alberta lift never got crowded. Thank goodness all the runs off the Alberta are blacks & some blues, because it really keeps the beginners on the center & right half of the mountain. Locals tell me that aside from Spring break & Christmas, the mountain is virtually empty. (So get there Jan to early March).

Lifts are slow, as there are no high speed lifts, and the Alberta takes about 13 minutes to ride up & half as long to ski down. The Alberta face off the Treasure Chair was fun to ski, but the lines on the right side kept us away except early & late. The Waterfall Area had some of the best skiing & snow anywhere for advanced to expert skiers. Finally, the best thing about Wolf Creek next to the conditions is the vast areas of tree & glade skiing, where the trees are not too dense to ski through. This is truly unique to Wolf Creek, & with fresh powder it's heavenly.

There are few places to stay or eat in South Fork, and nothing to do at night besides the hot tub & TV. Only one restaurant stays open past 8:30 PM, which I found shocking. Pagosa Springs has much more lodging, restaurants, & some night life. But we chose to stay in South Fork to avoid the possibility of the Pagosa pass closing due to heavy snow. Earlier in the season 2.5 feet of snow closed the road for 10 dys, but a foot of powder was no problem this week.

After three days at Wolf Creek, we spent two more skiing at Crested Butte for some variety. Fortunately the crowds there tapered off by the end of the week, but Crested Butte only had ~60" of base & no fresh snow for the previous 10 days. Our legs took a pounding the first day, but we lucked out with 8" of powder for our last day. With good conditions, Crested Butte is a better mountain due to it's size & variety of terrain, total lift capacity, and three high speed Quads. It also had a huge half-pipe & big terrain park with huge jump features. But without the fresh snow, Crested Butte would have been a total drag. The Town of CB is heads & tails better for food, shopping, charm, nightlife, & variety.

For true skiers, both places were great, but Wolf Creek nearly always promises the best conditions. I just have to plan a trip for Feb. By the way, Taos, NM also had phenommenal conditions last Spring, nearly as much snow as Wolf Creek & way better than anywhere else in Colorado. If only Taos would add some high speed lifts; the Terrain is really tops if you're an advanced to expert skier.

You must be a texan! Despite the texans its a fantastic place for early season skiing with by far the most snow of anyone in November - Wolf creek is a gem and a treat for people who dont actually need an extra blue groomer. My only hope is that one day texans will find some place else to get there blue jeans wet and show off there one piece ski suits.
