Shhh, don't tell anyone else, but we loved our trip to Ski Cooper & L'ville. You cannot beat the price and the skiing is good. No, not as large as most resorts, but there is enough there to work with for a week long ski trip. It's a beautiful mountain too! Leadville is a cool town not at all like the typical resort town, no 'snob factor'. Great prices on meals and lodging and friendly folks.. Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dog sledding and X country skiing all available. Get your outdoor clothing at Melanzana, made right there in town...really nice stuff! A city shuttle to & from the ski area would be a bonus.

I grew up in Colorado skiing Vail, Copper Mountain, Winter Park and the other big resorts but I really like Ski Cooper. It seems like the snow is more natural and untouched, compared to the big resorts. My impression with the bigger resorts was that they always groom down and pack the snow to make it last longer. The bigger resorts offer long lines too. It takes a while to get to the resort but I really enjoy skiing with the smaller crowds. Most of the runs are pretty mellow nothing really to steep or with lots of moguls. Both times I went I used a snowboard and really enjoyed the deeper ungroomed snow. I hope to return often.

We visited Ski Cooper the first time because we had a "deal" on lift tickets. We keep going back because we love the mountain. Great snow. Highly recommend. We bypass the big resorts and head for Cooper ...no lift lines, good food, and warm, friendly staff. The steakhouse in Leadville is good.
