Mt High is good for is its location. From just about anywhere in Southern California it is the closest ski area. Its even possible to get there without driving on a curvy mountain road - a big plus for those who get car sick. Also, if you are into it, they know how to build some good jumps & have plenty of rails, boxes & other terrain park features.
My observations: It has a lower elevation than the other ski areas which makes for significantly less snow. (what do you expect for a ski resort that you can get to without driving on a mountain road?) This year had some decent snow, and after a storm its good, but in general the lack of snow and the push to be open as long as possible makes for boarding around rocks & dirt patches common. There is a reason it is called "Mt. low" or "Mt. Dry". Expect crowds & long lines especially on weekends. Expect families playing in dirty snow on the side of the road causing traffic. Expect to pay way to much for what you get. Expect people to sit in the middle of the runs above each and every jump waiting to get the courage to go off it. Expect posers with full a burton setups & matching burton jacket & pants who can't make it off the lift without falling. In the spring, expect girls to be wearing tight tank tops or just bikini tops instead of jackets.
Mt high is split into east & west resorts. East usually opens late & closes early in the season because how it faces the sun, it has less snow.
If you are new, or from out of state, all so cal ski resorts make most of their own snow. so if youve been boarding in Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Mammoth, or just about anywhere else really, you will probably be disappointed. Mt High often stays open with as little as a 1" to 3" base. Overall, its overpriced and crowded, but its an easy drive and fun to people watch.

I used to go on occasion if the east mountain was open, but the last time i went I almost got attacked by a pack of gang bangers, one of them ran into me then wanted to front for his girl and his crew (have not been back since). That said, the west mountain is like snow summit and the east mountain is one long run with a park (the last time I was their anyway). The east mountain is on the sunny side and doesn't get as much snow as the west so it usually doesn't open till mid season or later.
