I just got back from my second week long trip this year to Sun Peaks with my family. We've been going to Sun Peaks for 8 years now. It's a wonderful place to ski and a wonderful place to learn to ski. My kids are 7, 8 and 10. They've all learned to ski at Sun Peaks with great instructors.

Sun Peaks is a great family ski location. It has a huge variety of terrain so there's lots for everyone. It's not crazy like Whistler. The crowds are small except for the week between Christmas and New Years, and Pres. Day weekend. Other than that, there's no lift lines and you find yourself on slopes all by yourself a lot of the time.

The weather seems to be always great. It's either sunny or it's snowing. I've never had bad weather.

The village is rather small and the sidewalks are rolled up around 9PM. That works great for our vacation style.

There's lot of other things to do besides skiing. There are horse draw sleighs, dog sled rides, inner-tubing, and my favorite - fondue dinner at the top of the mountain followed by skiing down after dark. You forget how many stars are really in the sky until you're on top of a mountain at night with no lights at all.

I've already made reservations for next year.

Well what can i say that hasn't been said before...Awesome!!! Just Awesome!
It's that good, i'm going back again just to make sure that i wasn't dreaming and i'll bring some friends with me as well.
The Peaks has it all, pow, steeps, trees, open bowls, groomers, back country access, something for everyone.
I especially loved Freddys, the Poo Shoot and the apline racing on Fridays. Thanks to my instructor! you know who you are.
The super friendly staff up on the hill and in the village in the bars and eateries. Go the Clam chowder!!
Not to mention the Chocolate Shop ..MMMM... i like chocolate.
The laid back feel of the resort really appealed to me, the 11am starts really keep me fresh for the whole day.

So look out for me next year, i'll be the one in the latest Burtons, Atomic race boards rippin it in the Peaks!!!

I skied sunpeaks in january 2007 with some freinds from australia. Had some great tuition although one of the instructors simply could not keep up with me.Athough my boots were still a little tight I ripped up the mountain, with some great POW skiin,it was jussssst sensational.
Had some great shopping and finally brought my self some cool baggy pants and hung up the harry high pants that I have dragging around ski resorts for years....My buddies now think I am starting to get blinged up...Thanks sunpeaks .

Great mountain ..loved it and the MAV will return..PS loved bottoms...but then again i have been a fan of bottoms for years .

We enjoyed 4 weeks skiing at Sun Peaks in 2007 and loved the entire trip. The Ski school staff were awesome, lifties were extremely freindly and Bar staff really seemed to be enjoying their life on the slopes of Sun Peaks.
Accomodation choices were plentiful and of good quality. We booked our lift passes and accom online easily and was even able to prearrange for our groceries to be delivered to our accom prior to arriving.
The skiing was great for everyone. There was quite a few of us from Australia, all of verying ski abilities and there was plenty of terrain for us all. The quality of snow was super. Dry and squeaky. Plenty of very well groomed runs of all levels and also some very challenging black bump runs. Lift lines were never long.
Plenty of other activities to enjoy at Sun Peaks as well. Some of our freinds had children and found the resort to be very child freindly both on and off the snow.
We are definately going back to Sun peaks in 2008 and highly recommend it for a great family vacation.

Sun Peaks was GREAT! My 13 year old son and I just spent five nights in the Village, staying at Sun Peaks Lodge.

Restaurants and amenities in the village were easily accessible. The food was good.

Plenty of after hours skiing, although I'd love them to add night skiing. The Powder was incredible. Not many folks once you went over to Mount Morrisey.

We plan to go back very soon.

Our stay there was in a cold lodge, you got it the heat wasn't working in the room. The management and other staff didn't really seem concerned, no offer of another room, no extra blankets...NOTHING.
The room was booked through the central reservations booking system, and was chosen because of it's closeness to the ski lifts.
There isn't much of a village there, some of the development is not what you would expect at a ski resort...more like what you would find in a middle class suburb.
The snow is good, when there isn't any fog to limit your visibility.

I've been to some of the most highly rated ski resorts in N. America and always find myself going back to Sun Peaks. What draws me back? Well, I couldn't give you one good reason, because it's a combination of things. The terrain and ski conditions have always been good - both for teaching the beginners I take up and for more experienced skiers and borders such as myself. The service and atmosphere at the local pubs and restaurants has always been great. (Bottoms up to all of you who contribute to that!!) Line-ups.. well, there are some, but in comparison to other ski resorts of similar size, I'm not going to complain! And last, but not least is the value. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've always managed to find good deals on places to stay and it seems that despite the long drive (5hr give or take) to get there it's always a more economical trip.
I almost didn't write this because I don't want a lot more people going there, but they deserve their kudos.
To sum it up, Whistler/Blackcomb is less than a 2 hour drive from me, but I'd rather go to Sun Peaks. See you there!

Good family mountain, nothing too extreme. Everything is really mellow. If you're looking for cliffs and lots of black diamonds, look somewhere else. Other than that, if you know the right places you can find pwder for a week after a snowfall. powder is nice and light. Great atmosphere, people are really friendly. Terrain park gets better every year, but still has a long way to go. Half pipe is not maintained. As for nightlife and others... Decent if you catch it a t the right time. check out Yuks Yuks comedy night every second week, and the pizza at mountain high is the best you'll ever taste.
