Take a step back in time, about 40 years to be exact! Ski Smithers is the quintisential small town ski area, loved locally, misunderstood otherwise. Its small, the lifts are original equipment from some long since forgotten era and the lodge(s) are drafty, need painting and offer the necessities along with fantastic views. When the snow is good, its G O O D, when its windy, its unbearable. If you cant see the mountain from town it means one of the following- its above the clouds and sunny, OR, the wind is blowing 70km/hr, ready to snowblast you into next week. With recent hikes in lift ticket prices and season pass prices, one might think that improvements were on the way but right now it looks like simple increases in operating costs are to blame. Season passes are not cheap and unless you intend to ski 15- 20 full days, it might not be worth it. Im reminded of the $400 season passes available at Sun Peaks where a day lift costs $65! Hmmmmmmm?? Anyway, enjoy this blast from the past, you will feel like you are at the edge of the world and crowds? What crowds!
