How can you review paradise? When reviewing a place like Fernie I find myself scrambling for the thesaurus to look up superlatives to explain its many beauties.

I found my way to Fernie last year on the advice of my Uncle who is a regular vistor.I was going to do a ski season and was planning on heading to banff when he told me about this place he ahd found. Well i can safely say that it was the greatest piece of advice I have ever been given.

Fernie looks like it has been designed by a crew from hollywood in the 60s and they left a long time ago.The main street is so picturesque it makes you want to stay there and not venture to the mountain looming in the background. But you do, and when you get there the experience is magical. The first day, in fact the first month was like nothing i had seen on a ski resort before. No cues, no people, and lots of snow. You could be in one of the famous bowls and not see another soul.It felt like you had the whole of Canada to yourself.

When the snow falls it really falls and i have never seen powder like it.You could ski for three days after a big dump and still find places no one had reached. Being very much a skiers mountain one of its greatest qualities is that it has so much that people dont know about. The main runs are great, with so much to choose from but behind, in the off piste madness is where all the fun is.

Once you go you will come back changed by the town, the people and most definately the snow.

Simply paradise!

Best Dogsled tour in the World. I actually re booked for the next day before I even finished my first lesson.
What can I say the dogs were beautiful and the guides were experienced in everything from Paramedicine to Marine Biology. The best experience of my life.

Fernie is da bomb!!! The actual ski hill base is quite undeveloped. The actual skiing is amazing. Interemidiate to advanced. This not you regular family hill. This ski hill is for people looking for steeps and deeps. If you don't ski or need a day off to recover there are many adventure activities to do.
Ice fishing tours, Wilderness tours, snowmobile tours and great snowshoe and cross country ski tours. There is a new nordic ski society in Fernie and they groom numerous trails around the town. If you are adventerous try dogsled lessons and tours with Adventure Source Tours. This is one of the most amazing experiences that Fernie has to offer. Drive your own team and enjoy the unbelievable scenery of the Elk Valley.

One of those days you dream of....we ended the ski season with an epic trip to Fernie, BC. Some friends who are avid powder skiers said this was the place to go and they had been to all others like Alta, Bridger, and Jackson. So we did it with some hesitation and boy were we surprised! Incredible terrain, deep pow and lots of fun! Spring time in the Rockies at Fernie can't be beat! we are coming back...

If there's a better ski mountain on earth, tell me where it is, because I'm going. Fernie is a very special place, and the copious snow is only where it begins. Two things really define Fernie. The first is the utterly wild terrain. Acres and acres of steep tree runs. Open bowls. Harrowing traverses to hidden gems, but almost no hiking ever needed and very little polling. Everywhere you turn there is an A+ adrenaline producing run. The second thing is the community. Fernie isn't just a ski town. It's primary industry, in fact, is not tourism, but mining. It hasn't been touched by the commercialization or contrivance of most resort towns. Locals, seasonal residents and visitors all coexist and intermingle, and there are many events in the town the bring out all three (check out a Fernie Ghostriders hockey game for a truly authentic Canadian experience). Add in breathtaking scenery, good value in accommodations, and, oh yes, 400 inches of snow per year, and you have what in my view is hands down the number one ski destination in North America and probably the world (not an exaggeration, seriously, if there's something better, please point the way). In fairness, I should add that Fernie is NOT a family resort. Even the green runs have challenging sections. And it has only two high speed chairs and many of the best runs require multiple chair lifts and can't easily be repeated because of the mountain layout. Very little in on-mountain amenities as well. So those are the downsides. I said them. But if you love STEEP runs and you love getting away from crowds and the full authenticity of what the ski vacation experience should be, then go to Fernie. You will not be disappointed.

On Spring trip to Canadian Rockies we found this gem! WoW is what our group said about the incredible terrain and epic Powder Snow we encountered!! Other guests said that the 3 feet new over weekend was normal..The town is a historic gem that looks like old town Telluride. I know this place will be more discovered so we are going back while we have it to ourself...
