Take my advice this place sucks. I went there on the weekend the lines were long, the food was terrible, there was no place to sit to eat the terrible and very expensive food. A bottle of water was $4.00. No organization, mass chaos. Will never return and I live 22 miles away. I'd rather drive further to have a more enjoyable experience. Whoever runs that place should be fired immediatiately. He;She doesn't have a clue how to run a sky resort.

Great southeast resort. Painfully crowded on the weekend, but nothing compared to Snowshoe or resorts in Virginia. Delightfully empty during the weekdays. I was lucky enough to visit on a Friday, and had the trails and parks practically to myself. Private lift for just the terrain park (no having to wait in the large lines if you just wanna ride the park all day), and the features are all shaped excellently.
Decently priced, and the trails are nice and wide. Only shortfall is limited trails for advanced/expert. Great spot for intermediate and beginners. Definitely worth a visit. I'd say it's my favorite resort in the area, and I plan on going back time and time again.

Whitetail has one of the most extensive snowmaking capabilities of any east coast resort. The advantages of this are pretty obvious- when I was there, it hadn't snowed a single flake all year, but about 2/3 of the mountain was open.
I went on a day when the forecast was calling for rain showers, and as a result, the resort was virtually empty with no lines whatsoever. The terrain is what it is. There are a few decent runs off the "expert quad" that are alright, but other than that, its pretty typical east coast easiness. The one major downside is the cost. I definitely suggest that you bring your own food if you come here because lunch will cost you $20 easily. On the plus side, the staff was surprisingly courteous.

I learned to ski at Whitetail in '95. The staff is usually very courteous. It is what it is. For its location I think conditions are very good. It is pricey but economically it has to be. It is crowded usually, but what do you expect with its very convenient location to Washington, Baltimore, and the crowded areas surrounding. I think Whitetail is a very good resort and I enjoy going here even with its shortcomings.
