Too many Gapers from San Fran, but the terrain is sick.

Another of my Top 5 locations, Squaw is a massive area with lots of lifts, lots of terrain and a great Lake Tahoe location - relatively easy to get in and out of.

Like a lot in the Tahoe area this is a spectacular resort - big, huge in fact with tons of terrain and lots of challenge regardless of your level. It can be crowded and costly due to its size and commercial pull, but the skiing is great. Long runs and at high altitude. I found myself stopping to breath on some of the higher elevation runs and I hail from Banff which is not exactly at sea level - so be prepared for the tax that altitude can play on your fitness level here! If you stay in South Lake Tahoe it is really fun to come home from Squaw aboard the Tahoe Queen - and taking if there if it is still running early morning is also a relaxing start to a great ski day.
