Grand Targhee Ski & Summer Resort is nestled in the Targhee National Forest at 8,000 feet in the high country of the Tetons and lies 42 miles west of Jackson, Wyo.

Famous for its consistently superb snow conditions -- more than 500 inches a year of the lightest snow -- this family run, family-oriented resort has two mountains.

Fred's Mountain is served by three chairlifts and a surface lift and offers 2,200 vertical feet and 1,500 skiable acres (300 crafted and 1,200 powder.) The mountain is predominantly intermediate to advanced-intermediate.

Targhee's second mountain, Peaked Mountain, is reserved for snowcat powder skiing. You can ski 3,000 acres, 2,800 feet of vertical and unsurpassed scenery and snow conditions.

Grand Targhee is a place where you can bring the kids and everyone will have a great time playing and skiing. The Kid's Club, 2 months to 5 years, has its own log cabin and spends time doing indoor activities as well as ski instruction. For ages 6 to 14, there's the all new Powder Scouts Program.

Take a Break

When you want to take a break from skiing, you may want to venture into Yellowstone by snowcoach, snowmobile or cross-country skis. You can also take a sleigh ride into a herd of 7,000 wintering elk on the National Elk Refuge in nearby Jackson.

The award-winning Rendezvous Base Lodge maintains Targhee's signature look and feel of an intimate, western village and includes four restaurants, four retail shops, a full service bar, conference rooms, activity center and massage professionals.

Grand Targhee's accommodations include 96 lodging rooms ranging from economy hotel units to two-bedroom condominiums. In neighboring Alta, Wyo., (6 miles) Driggs, Idaho, (12 miles, and Jackson, Wyo., (42 miles) there are a variety of accommodations ranging from dude ranches to motels to bed and breakfasts.

The resort is 42 miles northwest of Jackson, Wyo., (go west on Highway 22 to Victor, Idaho, and then north on Highway 33), 87 miles northeast of Idaho Falls (north on Highway 20 and then east on Highway 33) and 290 miles north of Salt Lake City.
