Granite Peak (formerly Rib Mountain) lies in the center of the state in Wausau, Wis., and is the highest skiable mountain in state. It also boasts the second highest vertical in the whole Midwest at 700 feet.

The area has made significant improvements in the past few years. These include a HighSpeed six person chair, new trails, a new 11,000 sq.ft. base lodge with a demo shop, rental shop, gift shop and tuning center.

The area has 100 percent snowmaking and grooming, and offers skiers and snowboarders a spectacular view of the city lights while night skiing Monday through Saturday.

Granite Peak Ski School has highly trained instructors for skiers of all ages and abilities.

A historic, split stone chalet offers food and spirits around one of three blazing fireplaces, and a variety of motels and bed and breakfast inns can be found in and around the area.

To get to Granite Peak, take Exit 190 off of U.S. Highway 51/39 and drive west one mile on County Highway NN.

This is a decent resort considering it's in Wisconsin, however, if you are coming up from chicago it's not necesarilly worth the extra…
I have been to better places, but being that Wausau doesnt have much to offer,it will do for some fanatics. I think the staff this year sucks.
