HAZEN'S NOTCH BED & BREAKFAST AND CROSS COUNTRY CENTER

For a pleasant retreat from urban life, stay at Hazen's Notch Bed and Breakfast during the ski season, or anytime. It's a comfortable restored farm house nicely appointed, with 3 cozy bedrooms (1 with private bath), on the second floor. It accommodates up to 6 people with a varied continental breakfast offered in our first floor sitting room.

Take a wintertime vacation at a place where you can step out the door and begin skiing at our cross country ski center or enjoy downhill skiing at nearby Jay Peak. Our ski center, located at the top of Vermont is "one of the finest skiing finds in New England" states Jonathan Wiesel in his new cross-country ski vacation book. Hazen's Notch has 50 kilometers of scenic, groomed and back country trails, and snowshoe trails, which wind their way through mixed maple, birch, and evergreen forest and across gentle, open meadows. Trails have been professionally designed with varied terrain for all ski abilities. The views are striking: there+s a beautiful sweep to Jay Peak and Big Jay to the south, and the horizon is filled with views of Haystack and Burnt Mountains. Our high elevation and Northern location give Hazen's Notch a long and consistent ski season. In addition to record snow falls, the Montgomery area is known for its quiet, unspoiled beauty.

We have a full sport shop on the premises with ski and snowshoe rentals, clothing and accessories for skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking, as well as a selection of guidebooks and maps of Vermont and the northeast. Professional instruction for all abilities is available, including lessons in telemark skiing. Owner/manager Val Schadinger chose this location because of its similarity to his Austrian homeland. German is spoken here as well as English.

Any time of year, the area is an excellent choice for those interested in nature or fitness. Vermont's famous Long Trail is just 4 miles away. Hiking trails start from here, and there is a swimming pond. Nearby Belvidere Pond offers possibilities of seeing a moose or discover Montgomery's 7 covered bridges ....enjoy fall foliage or bicycle in the area. Take a tram ride to the top of Jay Peak, or take in the ambience of a French Canadian resort. You will appreciate the unspoiled beauty of the Montgomery Area.
