This is a fantastic place. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. I had a craving for chips well after the restaurant had closed, and the front desk person found some for me and delivered!
Views are stunning - you can actually see the Cannon Mountain Tramline and a few trails at the top of the mountain from the dining room and from out bedroom.
I stayed in a traditional room - king bed with memory foam topper (yum), sparkling white linens, comfy duvet. Hardwood floors with throw rugs. Clean and modern small bath with shower, nice big sink, good light. Amazing views. This is a 125 year old building - floors and doors aren't necessarily straight, but it is cozy comfy. I looked in other rooms - the smallest entry level rooms are a fantastic value (often under $100). The suites and luxury rooms with fireplaces or jacuzzis would be my choice for a decadent splurge.
Full breakfast was hot, cooked the way I like it, and plentiful. Maple cream cheese stuffed french toast, seared hand-carved ham, homemade potatoes (NOT hose horrible things that go in a fryolater - these were the real deal), fresh fruits and to-die-for scones.
Dinner is great. We ate the first night in the tavern (enormous bacon cheeseburger, nachos, penne pasta with basil and chicken in homemade alfredo sauce). The second night we "dined" in the main fine dining restaurant. We were a little hesitant because we hadnt brought dress up clothes, but the servers made us feel right at home and the food was New York City level - I loved the grilled duck breast with grand marnier glaze and foie gras stuffed prunes. My partner had a filet that he thought was the best he had ever tasted. Great wines by the glass.
There is no "stuck up" attitude here - its a real country inn with real people. The food is great, the service is warm, and the rooms are comfy.
