On Martin Luther King (MLK) holiday weekend, my granddaughter and I planned to ski Massachusetts’ Jiminy Peak the Sunday before MLK day, and then the morning of the holiday cross over into Vermont and ski Bromley Mountain. I picked the town of Williamstown to spend the night because the Vermont border was just a stone’s throw away from Williamstown. I researched the SkiTown lodging link for Jiminy Peak, as well as Jiminy’s website lodging link. Since the Maple Terrace Motel was listed in both areas, I gave them a call. I received a very reasonable price and then booked a one night stay. Here are my impressions of the Maple Terrace Motel, using the 1 to 5 rating scale:

    Service: Rated 5.0:
The proprietor welcomed us warmly and spoke with a Scandinavian accent. She efficiently went over all the registration details, gave us precise instructions as to where the room was located, where we could park the car, gave us the remote to the TV, and told us the morning hours of the continental breakfast. She was extremely efficient and detailed, but not in a standoffish way. She asked us if we intended on dining in the area. When we told her that we were, she recommended just the right place for our palates, as well as our pocketbooks. When we entered our assigned room, there was bottled water waiting for us, as well as two Hershey’s chocolate kisses.

    Amenities: Rated 4.0:
Since we were using this motel for just a one night stay, we really weren’t too concerned about the number of amenities. We just wanted a comfortable and clean place to lay our heads for an evening. But it was great to find a refrigerator in the room as well as a writing desk. My granddaughter had to study for mid-term exams, and just because we came to ski, didn’t mean that I would allow her to neglect her studies. The room had a large modern TV with very good reception. For the summer crowd, there is a large heated outdoor pool.

    Location: Rated 5.0:
For us, the location was perfect. After skiing Jiminy, it may have taken us about 20 minutes to arrive at the Maple Terrace Motel. The next morning we arrived at Bromley in slightly less than one hour.

    Cleanliness: Rated 5.0 plus:
Clean! Immaculate! Pure! Spotless! Help me find some additional adjectives to describe this place! The housekeeping at the Maple Terrace Motel was unbelievable. It looked like you could even eat from the bathroom floor. Even in the winter with patches of snow, you could still see how well the exterior grounds were kept. In the morning when we were checking out we spent a little time in the office where they served the continental breakfast. It was like a mini museum. Everything was in its place and in order. The proprietor’s husband must have been a sailing captain of an ocean liner. There were many pictures and artifacts of a Swedish ocean liner in addition to a number of sailing related items. The entire Inn was kept clean and in impeccable order.

    Value: Rated 4.0:
For a room with two large double beds, and the included amenities, a night’s stay was extremely reasonable. I also understand that if you intend on skiing Jiminy Peak, the Maple Terrace Motel gives discounted skiing packages.

In summary: The best I thing I can say about my stay at the Maple Terrace Motel, is that I felt extremely comfortable. I could control my own heat. The shower heads were state-of-the-art. I had an extremely good night’s rest on a very comfortable bed. And the best of all is, that I almost felt like I was at home.
