Now a gracious bed and breakfast, the Avery House, a pre-civil war home, was built in 1848 and later became the home of Major George Avery and his family from 1881 until 1923. During his time in Galena, Ill., Major Avery served as the Galena postmaster for eight years.

A very warm and comfortable bed and breakfast done in period decor, with a sunny dining room and bay window overlooking the Galena River. You can also enjoy this view from our porch swing. Incidentally, our guest rooms and the sitting room are named after our four daughters - Sandra Kay, Lynn Marie, Carla Ann and Patricia.

Our home features central air conditioning and ceiling fans in all rooms. Fresh flowers and guest robes compliment your rooms. Early morning coffee is always available along with late afternoon coffee, hot chocolate or tea with delicious homemade cookies.

Full country breakfast served in the dining room with candlelight, crystal and china at 9 a.m.
