The setting is very beautiful, and it is super close to Eldora. (about 10 minute drive) If you stay here in winter though, you will be somewhat isolated. There really isn't anything to do within walking distance. The weekend we were there, it was too muddy to do any hiking. The food at the attached restaurant is fairly bland, so you'd be better to drive into town to eat. The rooms are very rustic, and could truly use some upgrades. But it does work well to launch from here to Eldora in the morning - just don't expect the Hilton!

Great place to stay, especially if you love Nederland & Eldora! My wife and I stayed here for a winter weekend getaway. We were drawn to the cafe, with the live music it reminded us of the little pubs in Ireland. The views were great and the proximity to the mountain was super. There's no slopeside lodging but it's nice to able to hit the local bakery for a cinnamon roll and still get first pick in the Eldora parking lots and even nicer to avoid the potential icy slide through the shadowy corners of boulder canyon after a long day on the slopes.
