Get the Competitive Edge!

NASTAR is the acronym for the NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public recreational grassroots ski program in the world. Since 1968, more than 4.7 million skiers have raced NASTAR.

The Race Experience

Participants can register to race NASTAR at participating resorts or online at the NASTAR web site. Participants must choose a race discipline (Alpine Skier, Snowboarder, Telemarker) and a racer classification (Recreational, Expert, Professional) when registering to race. There are also separate categories for physically challenged racers. In addition, NASTAR offers participants the opportunity to organize teams and compete against other teams across the country.

Participants compete in their age and gender category. After each race particpiants earn a handicap which represents the difference between a competitor's race time and a zero handicap expressed as a percentage. Participants win Gold, Silver or Bronze medals depending on the handicap earned in their age and gender category each time they race NASTAR. Depending on the number of times an individual races, particpants also receive a national, state and/or resort ranking in their age and gender category.

Medals

Gold, Silver and Bronze resort-specific NASTAR medals are awarded in accordance wtih official NASTAR scoring regulations to participants at the time of the race.
