Sports & Therapeutic Recreation Instruction / Developmental Education

Catamount is proud to be a partner in the STRIDE initiative. STRIDE is a not-for-profit volunteer organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities through sports and recreation. STRIDE's programs give individuals ages 5 to 21, the opportunity to test their limits, develop new skills, make friends, and have fun in the process. STRIDE attracts participants to its programs from all over the Northeast. Each year, STRIDE develops new programs and expands current programs in order to meet the needs of children with disabilities.

Project STRIDE Ski Program
Developed for students in Questar III BOCES Adaptive Physical Education classes, participants learn to ski as part of their school curriculum. The momentum to create STRIDE began as an outgrowth of Mary Ellen Whitney's work and research with this ski program at BOCES.

STRIDE Adaptive Ski & Snowboard Program
Two and one half hour private lessons including equipment are offered to all STRIDE participants. Each year our trained and certified staff teach hundreds of lessons on the slopes of Catamount Ski Area (in Hillsdale , NY .) The ski and snowboard program offers a variety of adaptive methods with mono-ski, bi-ski, 4-track, 3-track, visually impaired, hearing impaired and developmentally delayed. Each lesson is individualized for the participant's specific skill level and needs.
