The natural beauty of Wachusett Mountain State Reservation makes it a wonderful place to enjoy on foot!

At 2,006 feet, the summit of Wachusett Mountain offers spectacular views. On a clear day, you can see the Boston skyline to the east, Mount Monadnock to the north, and the Berkshire Hills to the west.

There are many hiking trails on the mountain with approximately 20 miles of marked and named trails including 3.9 miles of the long-distance Midstate trail, which runs from Ashburnham, Massachusetts to the Rhode Island border. The trails are open to hikers year-round.

Hikers can park at the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area Base Lodge or at the Wachusett Mountain State Reservation Visitor's Center.

Wachusett Mountain operates in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management.When you are visiting, please follow these trail use guidelines:
  • Stay on designated trails and roads.
  • Observe all posted rules and regulations.
  • Motorized vehicles are prohibited (Motorized vehicles are allowed only on the summit auto road when open.)
  • Use of roller skates, roller blades, skateboards or any other non-motorized vehicle is prohibited.
  • No bicycles on hiking trails.
  • No hiking on downhill ski trails except at designated crossings.
  • Be alert for other trail users.
  • Be aware of hunting seasons and wear blaze orange when appropriate.

    Trail Maps are available at the Wachusett Mountain State Reservation located just up the road from the ski area.
