Backcountry Skiing in the West Elk Mountains

Located in the pristine West Elk Mountains, the town of Crested Butte is a backcountry skiing paradise. Come experience the joy and excitement of fresh, dry and untracked Colorado powder skiing with one of the local guides.

CBMG offer tours for individuals and groups of all levels of ability and experience. They operate local tours out of the Elkton Huts, nestled in pine trees at an elevation of 10,680 ft. Elkton is a perfect base for an easy overnight tour or a week long adventure of backcountry ascents and descents.

The classic multi-day tour in the Crested Butte area is over to Aspen via Pearl Pass. This 5 day tour takes you through the rugged and dramatically beautiful terrain, with lodging in a system of huts. This tour requires a good level of fitness and skill, but you have the comforts of a warm hut to look forward to each night.

Looking for a more rugged backcountry experience?

For those seeking a more rugged experience there is a 5 day tour operated through the remote Collegiate Range. This tour provides high elevation ski touring in a remote region. It is rare to encounter other skiers and the peaks we ascend offer breathtaking views. Strong fitness and skill are required on this tour since we will be snow camping as we traverse from Mt Yale (14,196 ft.) to Mt. Harvard (14,420 ft.) and on to Mt. Columbia (14,073 ft.)
