The Thrill of the Climb

Come join Crested Butte Mountain Guides for a unique and exhilarating experience climbing a frozen waterfall. We will provide the equipment and teach you the basics of ice climbing techniques, belaying, rappelling, and safe climbing procedures. Come for two or three days and we will progress to steeper ice with opportunities to learn about lead climbing, protection, ice anchors, with the possibility of climbing a multi - pitch waterfall.

Come climb in two of the finest ice climbing areas of Colorado. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison River, a newly designated national park, provides a beautiful setting to climb and offers a fine variety of climbing. The world famous Ouray Ice Park is in a truly spectacular setting in the Uncompahgre Gorge with easy access and endless amounts of ice to climb. Introduction to Ice Climbing: covers basic climbing techniques, belaying, tool placement, footwork, and climbing communication, etc. There will also be top roping and allowing clients who are able to belay on their own the ability to belay each other under guide supervision.

Intermediate Ice Climbing: covers advanced ice techniques, tool placement, and footwork on steep and vertical ice, as well as bottom and top belay techniques.
