Looking for a true introduction into the backcountry? Expedition: Kirkwood is pleased to offer guided skiing/riding in Thunder Bowl and Avalanche Bow, an area adjacent to Kirkwoods northwest boundary. During appropriate snow conditions, the Thunder Bowl/Avalanche Bowl area provides excellent backcountry skiing and riding and the guided tour provides a unique experience that guests will not find anywhere else. Guided Tours will only be offered when conditions permit, and are open to advanced skiers and riders only.

All participants much show proficiency with an avalanche transceiver and rescue equipment, and will be tested in Beacon Basin prior to embarking on Tour. All participants will carry transceiver, shovel and probe, and are expected to participate if a rescue is necessary. This is NOT within the resort's boundaries, and is therefore not included in snow safety operations. There are inherent risks involved in skiing and riding the backcountry, such as avalanches, burial and potential death. Participants MUST be advanced skiers or riders and have necessary backcountry touring equipment.
